As I almost always do when visiting the countryside, I head out with my camera to capture everything I can—photographically speaking. After waiting a good while and walking through the woods, that beautiful bird appeared almost by chance; it watched me from above, perhaps sensing my intentions. Without hesitation, it descended to a height that made it possible to capture it—not to trap it, mind you, for this bird cannot survive in captivity, but to photograph it as it deserved. This bird embodies the spirit of all Cubans: colorful, proud, and, above all, free. That last quality is the deepest desire of every Cuban—to be free and not live in captivity, just like their national bird.
Como casi siempre hago cuando voy de visita al campo, salgo con mi cámara para capturar todo lo que puedo, fotográficamente hablando, después de esperar un buen rato y caminar por dentro del monte, casi sin querer hace su aparición tan bella ave, me miraba desde lo alto, quizás se dio cuenta de mi intención y sin pensarlo descendió a una altura que no fuera imposible hacerle su merecida sesión pero si capturarlo con alguna trampa, cabe destacar que esta ave no puede vivir en cautiverio. Esta ave representa a todos los cubanos, colorida, orgullosa y sobre todo libre, esto último es el deseo de todo cubano, ser libre y no vivir en cautiverio como su ave nacional.
