¡Saludos, amigos y apasionados de los viajes y las aventuras! En esta ocasión, quiero compartir con ustedes a través de esta linda comunidad como lo es @travelfeed, mi primer viaje de 2025 a uno de los destinos más hermosos del eje costero del estado Aragua: ¡Choroní!

Este fin de semana mi novio Josdrian y yo, decidimos alejarnos de la ciudad e irnos a la costa para pasar unos días llenos de paz y tranquilidad. Con este objetivo en mente, decidimos planificar nuestro primer viaje solos como pareja e irnos a uno de los pueblos más lindos de nuestro estado Aragua: Choroní. Este lugar es verdaderamente un paraíso mágico, con playas hermosas y una gente sumamente amable y servicial.

Greetings, friends and lovers of travel and adventure! On this occasion, I want to share with you through this beautiful community as it is @travelfeed, my first trip of 2025 to one of the most beautiful destinations of the coastal axis of the state of Aragua: Choroní!

This weekend my boyfriend Josdrian and I, decided to get away from the city and go to the coast to spend a few days full of peace and tranquility. With this goal in mind, we decided to plan our first trip alone as a couple and go to one of the most beautiful towns in our state of Aragua: Choroní. This place is truly a magical paradise, with beautiful beaches and extremely friendly and helpful people.

Antes de irnos a la playa, hicimos unas compras esenciales para nuestra estadía del fin de semana. Pasamos por el supermercado y compramos los alimentos, hielo, chucherías y otros artículos que podríamos necesitar. Además, nos detuvimos por Sushi Deli para llevarnos unos sushi y almorzar al llegar a la posada.

Iniciamos nuestra travesía atravesando el Parque Nacional Henry Pittier por la carretera que conecta la ciudad de Maracay con el pueblo de Choroní. Las montañas lucían espectaculares, y aunque la vía era angosta y con algunos tramos difíciles, el recorrido resultó muy agradable, ya que pudimos apreciar la belleza de la naturaleza. Afortunadamente, el viaje fue tranquilo y no encontramos mucho tráfico en el camino.

Before heading to the beach, we did some essential shopping for our weekend stay. We stopped by the supermarket and bought the groceries, ice, knick-knacks and other items we might need. In addition, we stopped by Sushi Deli to pick up some sushi for lunch when we arrived at the lodge.

We began our journey crossing Henry Pittier National Park on the road that connects the city of Maracay with the town of Choroní. The mountains looked spectacular, and although the road was narrow and with some difficult stretches, the ride was very pleasant, as we were able to appreciate the beauty of nature. Fortunately, the trip was quiet and we did not encounter much traffic on the road.

Al llegar al pueblo, nos dirigimos de inmediato a nuestra posada, donde fuimos recibidos por su dueña, Ione. La posada, llamada Casa Ione, es encantadora y se encuentra a solo una cuadra del malecón, lo que nos pareció genial porque todo nos quedaba cerca y no movimos el carro para nada. Es un lugar cómodo que cuenta con excelentes habitaciones, baño privado, hamacas y una cocina compartida equipada con todo lo necesario para nuestra estadía. La atención de Ione es excepcional; su energía positiva y amabilidad nos hicieron sentir como en casa. Además, tiene una adorable perrita y un gato que son parte de este acogedor lugar. ¡Nos encantó!

Upon arriving in town, we headed immediately to our posada, where we were greeted by the owner, Ione. The posada, called Casa Ione, is charming and is located just one block from the boardwalk, which we found great because everything was close by and we didn't have to move the car at all. It is a comfortable place with excellent rooms, private bathroom, hammocks and a shared kitchen equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Ione's attention is exceptional; her positive energy and kindness made us feel at home. She also has an adorable dog and cat that are part of this cozy place, we loved it!

El día viernes como llegamos en horas de la tarde, aprovechamos para dar un recorrido por el pueblo que por cierto, está muy lindo. Varias de sus calles tienen unos murales hermosos que realza a través de la pintura las tradiciones y a la gente de Choroní . Pudimos observar que diferentes artistas conocidos como grandes muralistas en nuestro país, han participado para crear estas obras de arte en las calles de este pueblo mágico, entre estos artistas se encuentran De La Roca y Dupuy. Definitivamente los colores vibrantes le dan una vista bonita al pueblo y transforman de manera radical cada una de sus calles.

On Friday, as we arrived in the afternoon, we took the opportunity to take a tour of the town, which by the way, is very nice. Several of its streets have beautiful murals that enhance through painting the traditions and the people of Choroní. We were able to observe that different artists known as great muralists in our country, have participated to create these works of art in the streets of this magical town, among these artists are De La Roca and Dupuy. Definitely the vibrant colors give a beautiful view to the town and radically transform each of its streets.

Luego de dar una vuelta por el pueblo, fuimos a Playa Grande y estuvimos un rato observando el mar y caminando por los alrededores de la playa. Por lo general esta playa es fuerte, sin embargo este primer día la vimos bastante tranquila y la gente bañándose y disfrutando del mar. A mí me encanta la energía que se siente el estar aquí, mi novio y yo disfrutamos también de la playita y nos quedamos un tiempo recibiendo la buena vibra de este lugar.

After a walk around town, we went to Playa Grande and spent some time watching the sea and walking around the beach. Usually this beach is loud, however this first day we saw it quite calm and people swimming and enjoying the sea. I love the energy it feels like to be here, my boyfriend and I also enjoyed the beach and stayed for a while getting the good vibe of this place.

Después de estar en la playa, subimos al Cristo y al faro del pueblo para observar el atardecer. Para llegar a este lugar, caminamos por el puente en dirección a Playa Grande y cruzamos a mano izquierda, luego pasamos por un camino de tierra hasta llegar a las escaleras para comenzar a subir. Son 120 escalones hasta llegar al Cristo, pero vale la pena subir cada uno de ellos porque la vista es hermosa. Se puede observar todo el malecón y el pueblo de Choroní y si sigues hasta arriba y llegas al faro como lo hicimos nosotros, verás que es fenomenal. El atardecer es bellísimo y este mirador hace que esta experiencia sea grandiosa, pues la paz que se siente al llegar y escuchar las aves y ver la inmensidad del mar es genial, sientes que el corazón se llena de felicidad al mirar este hermoso paisaje. Amo mirar el atardecer y sin duda alguna, estar ahí en ese momento con mi novio es un recuerdo muy bonito que tendré de este viaje. Aprovechamos para pedir un deseo y agradecer por estar ahí viviendo algo que queríamos desde hace un tiempo.

After being on the beach, we went up to the Cristo and the town lighthouse to watch the sunset. To get to this place, we walk across the bridge towards Playa Grande and cross to the left, then we go through a dirt road until we reach the stairs to start climbing. There are 120 steps to reach the Christ, but it is worth climbing each one of them because the view is beautiful. You can see the entire boardwalk and the town of Choroní and if you continue to the top and reach the lighthouse as we did, you will see that it is phenomenal. The sunset is beautiful and this viewpoint makes this experience great, because the peace you feel when you arrive and hear the birds and see the immensity of the sea is great, you feel that the heart is filled with happiness to look at this beautiful landscape. I love watching the sunset and without a doubt, being there at that moment with my boyfriend is a very nice memory I will have of this trip. We took the opportunity to make a wish and be thankful for being there living something we had wanted for a while.

Luego de hacer este lindo recorrido por el pueblo y sus alrededores, estuvimos un rato en la noche por el malecón el cual estaba bastante tranquilo a diferencia cuando es temporada. Conversamos con unos señores del pueblo y nos comentaron que el mes de diciembre y comienzos de enero, Choroní estuvo muy animado por la visita de los turistas y todo estaba full. Fue una muy buena temporada para ellos que su economía principal depende del turismo. Después nos fuimos a la posada para cenar, hicimos unas ricas hamburguesas y conocimos a Daniela y a Francois una pareja muy agradable que ya tenían varios días en la posada. Los invitamos a cenar con nosotros y conversamos un rato con ellos. Francois es francés y ya tiene varios meses en nuestro país, Venezuela. Nos comenta que está enamorado de él porque los venezolanos somos muy buena gente, amables y acogedores. Además, nos expresa que tenemos un hermoso país del cual no desea irse y me parece tan bonito que en tan poco tiempo le haya agarrado tanto amor y cariño a lo nuestro y eso me hace sentirme más orgullosa de mi tierra, la cual recibe con los brazos abiertos a todos por igual sin importar las circunstancias y diferencias que puedan existir. Después de cenar y compartir con Daniela y Francois, nos fuimos a descansar y planificar lo que haríamos al día siguiente.

After making this nice tour of the town and its surroundings, we spent some time at night on the boardwalk which was quite quiet unlike when it is seasonal. We talked with some locals and they told us that in December and early January, Choroní was very lively with tourists and everything was full. It was a very good season for them as their main economy depends on tourism. Afterwards we went to the posada for dinner, we made some delicious hamburgers and met Daniela and Francois, a very nice couple who had already been at the posada for several days. We invited them to have dinner with us and talked with them for a while. Francois is French and has been in our country, Venezuela, for several months. He tells us that he is in love with him because Venezuelans are very nice, kind and welcoming people. In addition, he tells us that we have a beautiful country from which he does not want to leave and I think it is so nice that in such a short time he has caught so much love and affection for our country and that makes me feel more proud of my land, which welcomes everyone with open arms regardless of the circumstances and differences that may exist. After dinner and sharing with Daniela and Francois, we went to rest and plan what we would do the next day.

El sábado nos paramos tempranito, preparamos desayuno y nos encontramos en el malecón con Robert, un señor amable que sería el encargado de llevarnos a conocer Cepe y Chuao. Al principio, solo queríamos ir a Chuao, pero luego de conversar con Robert y explicarnos como sería el recorrido, nos animamos a hacerlo completo y de verdad que fue una experiencia totalmente INCREÍBLE.

Salimos del malecón a las 9:30 de la mañana y después media hora en lancha, llegamos a Cepe. Cepe es una playa espectacularmente HERMOSA. Como solo se puede llegar en lancha es mucho menos concurrida que Playa Grande o Cata. Sus aguas son claras y cálidas. La arena es blanca y en la orilla de la playa hay unas piedras pequeñas, pero ya cuando uno está adentro, no se quiere salir jajaja. Mi novio y yo colocamos nuestras cosas en una sombra, ya que no quisimos alquilar toldo porque solo estaríamos un rato. Así que extendimos nuestra toalla, nos servimos un trago de sangría y nos metimos a bañar. La playa prácticamente es una piscina divina con un oleaje agradable, pues no es tan fuerte como en Playa Grande. Nos encantó demasiado porque teníamos este hermoso lugar prácticamente solo para nosotros ya que habían muy pocas personas. Esta es una playa segura, ya que los trabajadores de los negocios están pendientes de que los turistas nos sintamos cómodos y nos llevemos una muy buena experiencia. Nuestras cosas las dejamos con confianza y no se nos perdió nada.

On Saturday we stopped early, prepared breakfast and met Robert, a kind man who would be in charge of taking us to visit Cepe and Chuao. At first, we only wanted to go to Chuao, but after talking with Robert and explaining us how the tour would be, we decided to do it all and it was a truly AMAZING experience.

We left the malecon at 9:30 in the morning and after a half hour boat ride, we arrived at Cepe. Cepe is a spectacularly BEAUTIFUL beach. As it can only be reached by boat it is much less crowded than Playa Grande or Cata. Its waters are clear and warm. The sand is white and on the shore of the beach there are some small stones, but once you are inside, you don't want to get out hahaha. My boyfriend and I put our things in the shade, since we didn't want to rent an awning because we would only be there for a while. So we spread out our towel, poured ourselves a drink of sangria and went for a swim. The beach is practically a divine pool with a nice swell, as it is not as strong as in Playa Grande. We loved it too much because we had this beautiful place practically all to ourselves as there were very few people. This is a safe beach, since the workers of the businesses are aware that the tourists feel comfortable and have a very good experience. We left our things with confidence and nothing was lost.

Aquí en Cepe, pasamos prácticamente todo el día y fue maravilloso. Disfrutamos demasiado de la playa. Vimos también como llegaron dos lanchas con los pescadores que estaban contentos porque habían tenido una muy buena pesca. Cepe es un paraíso mágico y nos pareció muy chévere que no hubiese tanta gente, porque así se disfruta mucho más la playa. Cepe, además es una playa donde varias personas hacen buceo y snorkeling, de hecho habían unas pocas personas practicando estas actividades.

Here in Cepe, we spent practically the whole day and it was wonderful. We enjoyed the beach very much. We also saw how two boats arrived with fishermen who were happy because they had had a very good catch. Cepe is a magical paradise and we found it very cool that there were not so many people, because the beach is much more enjoyable. Cepe is also a beach where many people do scuba diving and snorkeling, in fact there were a few people practicing these activities.

Luego de visitar Cepe, nos dirigimos en lancha hasta el pueblo de Chuao y estaba muy emocionada, porque desde hace mucho tiempo quería conocer este pueblito y su playa. Mi novio si había ido varias veces e incluso en ocasiones anteriores, llegó hasta chorreron. Esta vez tuvimos el privilegio de hacer la ruta del cacao y es algo que recomiendo 100% hacerla porque vale la pena.

Chuao es un pueblo del eje costero del estado Aragua, perteneciente al municipio Santiago Mariño. La forma para acceder a este encantador lugar es a través de lanchas o por la montaña, ruta que era conocida como Turmero o Polvorín. Ya este acceso por la montaña no se utiliza, porque se volvió algo inseguro y decidieron cerrarla. Al llegar en lancha a la playa, nos esperaba un camión que nos llevaría hasta el pueblo de Chuao para así, comenzar el recorrido de la ruta del cacao.

After visiting Cepe, we went by boat to the town of Chuao and I was very excited, because I had wanted to visit this town and its beach for a long time. My boyfriend had been there several times and even went as far as Chorreron on previous occasions. This time we had the privilege of doing the cocoa route and it is something that I recommend 100% to do because it is worth it.

Chuao is a town on the coastal axis of Aragua state, belonging to the municipality of Santiago Mariño. The way to access this charming place is by boat or through the mountain, a route that used to be known as Turmero or Polvorín. This mountain access is no longer used, because it became unsafe and they decided to close it. When we arrived at the beach by boat, a truck was waiting for us to take us to the town of Chuao to begin the tour of the cocoa route.

El pueblo de Chuao es reconocido mundialmente por cultivar y producir el mejor cacao del mundo. Según nos relató la señora Blanca, quien nos guio en este recorrido lleno de historia, Chuao exporta su exquisito cacao a diversas partes del mundo, siendo Japón su principal comprador. El cultivo del cacao implica una serie de procesos que, hasta el día de hoy, son llevados a cabo de manera artesanal por hombres y mujeres de la comunidad, con el fin de preservar la cultura y las tradiciones heredadas de nuestros ancestros indígenas.

El nombre de Chuao se lo asignaron los indios Caribes y significa: ríos de aguas caudalosas. Este es uno de los pueblos más antiguos del estado Aragua, por lo cual es importante por su patrimonio cultural y natural. En épocas de la colonia, los españoles les quitaron las tierras a los indígenas que eran encargados de sembrar y cultivar el cacao. Luego, en el tiempo de la lucha por la independencia, nuestro libertador Simón Bolívar, les regresa estas tierras a los pocos caribes que resistieron y a los negros que fueron esclavos de los españoles para que estos se apropiaran de lo que les había sido arrebatado por Diego Lozada.

The town of Chuao is recognized worldwide for growing and producing the best cocoa in the world. According to Mrs. Blanca, who guided us on this tour full of history, Chuao exports its exquisite cocoa to various parts of the world, Japan being its main buyer. The cultivation of cocoa involves a series of processes that, to this day, are carried out in an artisanal way by men and women of the community, in order to preserve the culture and traditions inherited from our indigenous ancestors.

The name Chuao was given by the Carib Indians and means: rivers of plentiful waters. This is one of the oldest towns in the state of Aragua, which is why it is important for its cultural and natural heritage. During the colonial times, the Spaniards took the land from the Indians who were in charge of planting and cultivating cocoa. Later, during the struggle for independence, our liberator Simón Bolívar returned these lands to the few Caribs who resisted and to the blacks who were slaves of the Spaniards so that they could appropriate what had been taken from them by Diego Lozada.

Después de 400 años, el cacao de Chuao, sigue teniendo un fino aroma y una genética especial que lo hace ser reconocido y apreciado por diferentes maestros chocolateros alrededor del mundo. Las mujeres juegan un papel fundamental en la recolección del cacao, pues son ellas quienes se encargan de mimar el cacaotal y de los trabajos de recolección. Blanca nos explica que todo el cacao es tratado de la misma forma en su fase de fermentación . Existe un cuarto donde hay unos barriles de madera que tienen en su interior el cacao. Estos barriles se encuentran a una temperatura aproximada de 70° C. Luego, este cacao es llevado a secar al sol en la plaza del pueblo.

Este proceso es importante porque las mujeres chequean que el cacao no se humedezca. Vigilan las condiciones climáticas para preservar la calidad del cacao, ya que en tiempos de lluvias o días nublados, recogen el cacao de la plaza y lo resguardan, para así mantener su calidad. Las manos sabias y expertas de estas mujeres, conocen cuando el cacao está listo en cada una de sus diferentes fases.

De verdad que después de conocer todo el trabajo que conlleva este proceso, hace que se pueda valorar el trabajo de cada una de estas mujeres comuneras que aman lo que hacen y se dedican a este trabajo con todo el compromiso del mundo. Una vez lista la producción, cada una de estas familias con sus maestros chocolateros, se encargan de vender el cacao en sus diferentes porcentajes , es decir, todas estas familias respetan el porcentaje alto de cacao a la hora de comercializarlo.

Durante todo este recorrido, pudimos hacer una cata del cacao en sus diferentes presentaciones. Probamos la manteca de cacao que es popularmente conocida como chocolate blanco, luego nos deleitamos probando diferentes barras de chocolate con una variedad del porcentaje de cacao, ya que le añaden un ligero toque de azúcar y otros ingredientes especiales. De verdad que el sabor es ÚNICO e inigualable.

After 400 years, the Chuao cocoa still has a fine aroma and a special genetics that makes it recognized and appreciated by different master chocolatiers around the world. Women play a fundamental role in cocoa harvesting, as they are in charge of pampering the cocoa trees and harvesting. Blanca explains that all the cocoa is treated in the same way during the fermentation phase. There is a room where there are wooden barrels with the cocoa inside. These barrels are at a temperature of approximately 70° Celsius. Then, this cocoa is taken to dry in the sun in the town square.

This process is important because the women check that the cocoa does not get wet. They watch the weather conditions to preserve the quality of the cocoa, since in times of rain or cloudy days, they collect the cocoa from the plaza and protect it in order to maintain its quality. The wise and expert hands of these women know when the cocoa is ready in each of its different stages.

Truly, after knowing all the work involved in this process, it is possible to appreciate the work of each of these community women who love what they do and dedicate themselves to this work with all the commitment in the world. Once the production is ready, each of these families with their master chocolatiers, are responsible for selling the cocoa in different percentages, that is, all these families respect the high percentage of cocoa when it comes to marketing.

During this tour, we were able to taste cocoa in its different presentations. We tasted the cocoa butter which is popularly known as white chocolate, then we were delighted tasting different chocolate bars with a variety of cocoa percentage, since they add a light touch of sugar and other special ingredients. The taste is truly UNIQUE and unmatched.

Durante este recorrido nos llevaron hasta la cruz del perdón. La señora Blanca nos cuenta que es llamada así, porque los Caribes y los esclavos al ver que los españoles le tenían respeto a la cruz por temor a ser castigados por Dios, corrían hasta esta Cruz para así, evadir los 40 o 60 azotes, utilizando este símbolo como protección, ya que notaban que era importante para los españoles. Luego de regreso a la playa, pasamos por el árbol de los espíritus el cual es una majagua muy grande. Nos cuentan que cada vez que muere un habitante de Chuao, le sale un nudo al árbol, por eso consideran a este majagua como algo sagrado.

Esta es una experiencia que todos deben vivir porque de verdad es hermosa. Está llena de historia y cultura. Saber todo esto me hace sentir cada día más orgullosa de mi país y valorarlo cada día más. Nuestra historia y cultura es muy rica y cuando nos adentramos a conocer otras realidades y contextos, podemos entender y mirar las cosas desde otra perspectiva.

Aragua posee un eje costero único y sus playas definitivamente son un paraíso escondido. Además, tienen una hermosura particular y todo ese caribe que nos arropa se hace sentir con la energía en cada ola que revienta en las orillas del mar y también en lo bonito y especial del trato que nos brindan cada uno de los habitantes de estos pueblos como lo son Choroní, Cepe y Chuao. Mi novio y yo, quedamos enamorados con esta visita a cada una de estas playas y disfrutamos mucho. Antes de irnos, tomé unas fotos de la playa en Chuao, se veía hermosa y el agua, a pesar de que ya empezaba a ocultarse el sol, se sentía cálida.

Aragua has a unique coastal axis and its beaches are definitely a hidden paradise. In addition, they have a particular beauty and all that Caribbean that surrounds us is felt with the energy in every wave that bursts on the shores of the sea and also in the beautiful and special treatment given by each of the inhabitants of these towns such as Choroní, Cepe and Chuao. My boyfriend and I fell in love with this visit to each of these beaches and enjoyed it very much. Before leaving, I took some pictures of the beach in Chuao, it looked beautiful and the water, even though the sun was starting to set, felt warm.

Al caer la noche , ya estábamos nuevamente en Choroní, llegamos a las 6 de la tarde y nos dirigímos nuevamente a la posada para bañarnos y arreglarnos para estar un rato en el malecón. Estando ahí en el malecón, nos encontramos a un amigo de mi novio que estaba compartiendo con su pareja y pasamos un rato agradable, hasta terminé bailando tambor jajaja, cosa que NO debe faltar si vas a Choroní o a cualquiera de nuestras costas.

El día domingo nos tocaba retornar a Maracay, así que nos paramos temprano para desayunar e irnos un rato a Playa Grande. Les cuento que el mar estaba muy fuerte y después de que cuatro olas nos revolcaran jajaja, decidimos salirnos y regresar a la posada. Ahí nos estaban esperando Francois y Daniela para almorzar, ya que una noche antes nos habían invitado. Pasamos un rato muy bonito compartiendo con ellos y aprovechamos para intercambiar números, ya que por casualidad de la vida, viven cerca de mi casa y no nos conocíamos jejeje.

At nightfall, we were back in Choroní, we arrived at 6 pm and headed back to the inn to bathe and get ready to spend some time on the boardwalk. While there on the boardwalk, we met a friend of my boyfriend who was sharing with his partner and we had a nice time, I even ended up dancing drums hahaha, something that should NOT be missing if you go to Choroní or any of our coasts.

On Sunday we had to return to Maracay, so we stopped early to have breakfast and go to Playa Grande for a while. I tell you that the sea was very strong and after four waves rolled over us hahaha, we decided to leave and return to the posada. There Francois and Daniela were waiting for us to have lunch, since they had invited us the night before. We had a great time sharing with them and we took the opportunity to exchange numbers, since by chance, they live near my house and we didn't know each other hehehehe.

Este fin de semana que pasó lo recordaré por el resto de mi vida, porque estuvo lleno de magia, amor y gente bonita con una energía espectacular. Además, conocí Chuao y Cepe, por lo que debo confesarles que quedé enamorada de estas dos hermosas playas y volvería a ir mil veces más. Si antes me encantaba Choroní, hoy en día digo que lo amo mucho más porque es acogedor, lleno de cultura e historias maravillosas en cada una de sus calles.

Disfruté muchísimo conocer estas playas tan bonitas al lado de mi novio, al cual también amo profundamente y deseo que podamos compartir muchos viajes más juntos. De verdad que la energía fue linda y queremos volver muy pronto.

I will remember this weekend for the rest of my life, because it was full of magic, love and beautiful people with a spectacular energy.
