Today we are going to be looking into panthers, one of my favourite animals!

Panther, or black panther as I love to call it, is scientifically known as Panthera pardus and Panthera onca, can be found in Africa, Asia and America. They actually have different names in different countries. In Africa and Asia they are known as black leopards, black jaguars in Latin America, and black cougars in North America.

Panthers can be found in many climates such as the deserts, rainforests, savannas, grasslands, swamps and mountains.

Panthers actually enjoy being alone for some odd reason, the only time they are not alone is when it's mating season or when they give birth and have to nurture their adorable little kittens. The gestation period(the time a mammal carries its babies until it gives birth) for this animal is between 90-105 days and will give birth to 1-4 kittens. The cubs are born with grey fur and are actually blind for about 2 weeks.

Panthers have gorgeous well-built bodies and dark fur all over its body that helps them camouflage effortlessly and stay completely unseen from its prey and they love hunting and watching over their prey in the trees.

Panthers have sharp claws that they retract when they need to spring into action and hold on to their prey. They also have powerful jaws and long sharp teeth that they clearly need to bite into flesh. In addition to being able to roar, this animal can also snarl (growl with its teeth showing) and of course just plain old growl.

Black panthers are able to run after their prey with a speed of up to 58 kilometres per hours. They have a lifespan of 12-15 years on their own and 20 years if in captivity.

In America the jaguar is the largest feline(member of the cat family) and although this animal has a ferocious side, it also has a playful side, they enjoy playing around and swimming to cooling down.
