The ancient wyrm Rage has been the patriarch of his flight of red dragons for millenia. Long before the Splintering—long before even the Tai Kalayne —he claimed Mount Redwyrm as his own. Over the centuries, he has grown his brood and amassed a hoard of treasure to rival that of the wealthiest of kingdoms a hundred times over. He was content to admire his endless mounds of precious metals and gems while expanding his knowledge of this realm and all the other realms and planes of existence. With defiance against the Chaos Empire mounting, Mantaroth, second only to Silus of the Rift, offered the ancient red wyrm an alliance. In exchange for crushing any potential uprisings, Rage was promised riches untold—not just gold and baubles, but artworks, artifacts, and divine relics the likes of which the Splinterlands has never seen, amassed from countless conquered realms. Now, Rage's flight of red dragons glides over the forests, plains, and moors of the Broken Lands, laying waste to any who would forsake their loyalty to the empire—and demanding tithings in exchange for asylum, regardless of loyalties.

The mountains of Dragon's Roost reach high into the sky, their peaks tearing at the bellies of passing clouds. Many species of dragon have made their homes here among the crags and ledges. They live in relative harmony, away from the nuisance of the two-legged creatures that populate most of Draykh-Nahka. There is one that is different, though. She makes her home deep within the subterranean halls of the mountain range. Other dragons avoid her, and few will speak her name. The dragonborn know her well, though, and have worshiped her for as long as they can remember. She is Agor Longtail, one of the largest red dragons ever to have lived. Twice each year, on the equinox, a host of dragonborn visit the lair of Agor to pay homage to her. They bring tributes, and Agor offers wisdom—a small fraction of her eternal knowledge. On the summer solstice, she leaves the comfort of her mountainous lair and takes to the skies, raining death upon any who have dared to wrong her disciples. On the winter solstice, she visits the Suam, leader of the naga and the Gloridax, to offer counsel regarding governance, economics, the military, and other matters of state. There is no mistaking, however, that Agor could destroy the Grand Consul of the Gloridax with one flaming breath if she so chose. After the Chaos Legion's invasion, most dragonborn gave up their pilgrimage to Agor, and those who attempted it were killed. At first, Agor thought they had forsaken her, and the great dragon fell into a dark brooding. She became angry with herself for letting these simple mortals affect her. She was a dragon, and they were insects—insignificant snippets of life that meant nothing. But every living thing needs adoration, and Agor was no different. Eventually, curiosity got the better of her. She ventured out to discover what had become of her disciples. It was then she saw the devastation wrought by the legions of chaos. Her fury sparked a rage so great that the roar of Agor Longtail nearly split the heavens asunder.

The Chaos Realm has preyed upon many a world, opening rifts in time and space to invade the lands and take from its people. When they attacked Praetoria and the Splinterlands, it was first thought that the minions were compelled through the portal for their fear of the dark shade that lurked beyond the gate, the shadowed image of Uul. Eventually though, when the last of the armies stepped through, there came such a prodigious monster that at first, none could believe it was real. A nightmare dragged forth into reality. As it flew through the spinning vortex, the Chaos Dragon let forth a violent shriek, so loud that it was felt in the far reaches of every Splinter. The people of Praetoria fell to their knees, terror taking the strength from their legs and the courage from their hearts. For an army of monsters can be fought, the land defended with righteous fervor. But when even the invading hordes are fleeing before such a beast, what hope can there be? The answer is none when the eater of worlds has arrived, the true devourer of existence. Surely such a thing couldn't be the puppet of Uul? How could anyone command a creature that has flown from one cosmos to another, feeding upon alien planets? But it was his most potent being, one that existed before time had conceived the very gift of life itself.

The first time Florre encountered the Chaos Legion was on her homeworld, Folia, in the Forest of Flames. The forest was a beautiful yet dangerous place. Its fire-scorched trees were burned and blackened. Their leaves smoldered with glowing embers. Pools of bubbling magma and mud pots could be lethal to any who stumbled into them or ventured too close. As Florre ventured deeper into the forest, gathering reagents for the healers of her village, the clank of metal and rough tone of angry voices broke the silence. Through the trees, three warriors in dark armor and black cloaks tromped among the flora. Ahead of them, a pair of wild elves staggered along, their wrists bound by rusty iron chains and manacles. As she stared in horror, a warrior raised a whip and lashed one elf across the back. He staggered and fell to his knees. When the second elf bent to help him, the warrior whipped him, too. Rage burned within Florre like the flames in the surrounding trees. She murmured a spell, and two red and blue birds appeared above her. They soared through the branches toward the armored warriors and flittered overhead. As they did, the manacles around the elves' wrists clicked open and fell to the ground with a metallic clank. The elves stared down in surprise. Then they whirled and charged the warriors, fists swinging. Florre rushed toward them through the trees. One elf caught a warrior squarely on the jaw, and the man's eyes rolled up in his head as he fell in a heap. Another warrior tried to draw his sword from its scabbard, but the second elf tackled him to the ground before he could. The third warrior, the one with the whip, vanished into the trees and smoke. The two elves fought to keep the remaining warrior pinned to the ground. He beat at them with his mailed fists and caught one in the belly with a kick from his heavy leather boot. The elf let out a grunt and fell back. The warrior struggled to his feet and drew his sword. Florre pulled up short and chanted a spell. Before she could finish, the loud crack of a whip resounded. A fiery pain tore into her back. She cried out and stumbled sideways. Her legs gave out. She fell. Her right hand hit the forest floor, but her left—her left sank into the boiling slur of an igneous mudpot. The pain was unlike anything she had ever felt before. It consumed her, and everything went black. It took months for her to recover and piece together what had happened next. The sounds of battle had drawn the Riftwatchers, who had brought Florre to their encampment and, with the aid of their runic magic and devices, saved her life, although they couldn't save her limb. In its place, she wears a cold, metal cogwork arm. Years later, she can still feel the super-heated mud burning her arm away. She misses her family and her friends from Folia, but she didn't hesitate when the Riftwatchers asked her to join them and put a stop to the Chaos Legion. Now, she is a Runemancer, a leader among those who pulled her from the fire. They saved her and taught her how to defend herself using the art of runemancy. She puts those skills to use protecting her realm and every other from the Chaos Legion.

The archfiend Barashkukor comes from an infernal realm that was subsumed and obliterated by the dark god Uul during the insidious conquests of the legions of Chaos. His formidable power quickly earned the respect and favor of Silus of the Rift, and Barashkukor was soon made a high legionnaire and charged with command of a legion of demons ten-thousand strong. After the conquest of the Belurocian Empire, Barashkukor laid claim to its throne. He governs with meticulous cruelty and a reign of terror that makes even the Chaos Empire's most despotic of despots seem egalitarian by comparison. In spite of this, acts of subversion are escalating in both frequency and severity, especially among the Dark Eternals; the threat of death isn't the best deterrent for a splinter who wants nothing better than to usher in the Dark Eternity and the end of all life in the Splinterlands.
