The Wagner Free Institute of Science is raising money to fund research fellowships in the humanities & arts for graduate students and faculty from nearby Temple University to work with the historic collections at the Wagner.

The Project:

In 2016, the Wagner collaborated with Temple University to establish a Research Alliance intended to stimulate research opportunities in the humanities & arts. The project intended to encourage faculty and graduate students in the humanities & arts to develop research projects based on the Wagner's historic museum, library, and archival collections. The first year was a great success, funding 8 different projects. You can follow the Wagner @phillyhistory to find out more about these projects. We now aim to establish an ongoing fund to support the continuation of this exciting work.

Goal:

$3,000 to fund 4 research fellowships for faculty and graduate students to work with the historic collections at the Wagner during 2019.

Who are we:

The Wagner Free Institute of Science is an educational institution and natural history museum founded in 1855. It is a rare survival of an intact Victorian science institution that remains nearly unchanged since the end of the 19th century. It offers free public education courses on science, now going for 163 years, which is the oldest program devoted to free adult education in the United States. The Wagner continues its original mission of making science accessible to all and all for free - just as William Wagner intended. Now a National Historic Landmark, its museum, library, and archives constitute a living resource for exploring 19th century science and history in a place like no other.
