Hoy quiero contarles una vivencia personal de mi infancia.. Corría el año 1983, yo contaba entonces con 16 años de edad, trabajaba de manera independiente, en el aeropuerto Las flecheras de mi pueblo San Fernando de Apure, y digo de manera independiente porque, lavaba vehículos así como avionetas y hacia también de limpia botas. Lo cierto es que en ese tiempo, no recuerdo el día ni el mes, solo el año, 1983. Se encontraba en funciones el entonces presidente, Luis Herrera Campins. Ese día que nunca olvidaré, llegó dicho presidente al aeropuerto, en su avión, creo que era un Boeing 737-200 de la fuerza aérea venezolana, si mal no recuerdo, bueno, el avión se estacionó, bajó la comitiva, y luego el presidente, por su puesto, quedando todo el avión, rodeado de seguridad y todo el aeropuerto.

Una vez que todos se marcharon hacia la Ciudad, bajaron los pilotos, cuatro en total, y se dirigieron hacia el Aerobar, así se llamaba un bar que estaba justo al lado de la sala de espera, los pilotos entraron y yo, detrás ellos con mi cajón de limpiabotas.

Yo me quedé en silencio mirándolos reír, pero el capitán de la nave cuyo apellido jamás se me olvidó, me puso su mano derecha sobre uno de mis hombros y me dice..."Mira chamín, ese avión tiene su personal de limpieza, además es totalmente restringido para personal no autorizado.

Yo entendí, pedí disculpas y di media vuelta para irme pero, el capitán me detuvo y me dijo: "Ven conmigo, nos encaminamos hacia el avión". Una vez en la escalera para subir, los soldados que estaban en dicha escalera, nos detuvieron y revisaron mi cajón de limpiabotas y toda mi ropa, una vez hecho esto procedimos a entrar.

Raudo y veloz, voy en busca de la papelera, entro al baño, tomo el objeto y regreso con el capitán, el me entrega dos papeleras más y me dice: "Bota la basura, lava las papeleras y regresas". Obedezco, bajo del avión, voy y boto la basura, lavo las papeleras y regreso, siempre bajo la mirada de los soldados.

De nuevo subo al avión, coloco las papeleras en sus sitios y el capitán me aborda de nuevo diciendo.. Tienes hambre?? A lo cual sin titubear respondo. Si señor!! Él sonríe llama a una de las azafatas, y le dice: "Dale algo de comida al chamín, por favor. Y ella muy cariñosamente y con una gran sonrisa, me invita a sentarme en uno de los asientos. Acto seguido va hacia la cocina la cual se veía a simple vista y saca varias bandejas de aluminio desechable pequeñas, contentivas con comida, recuerdo que se trataba de: Asado Negro, arroz blanco, ensalada rusa y plátano frito, de postre una rebanada de quesillo y una bebida de frutas, todo en una bandeja muy bonita, con sus dispensadores de aceite, sal, vinagre y pimienta, también una rosa en una mini jarrón en el centro de la bandeja. Jamás en mi vida me han atendido de esa manera.

I have never been served like that in my life.

Una vez que terminé de comer, llamé a la chica, le di las gracias y le entregué la bandeja, entonces el capitán viene de nuevo y me dice. Quedaste bien?? Y yo le dije, Si!! Muchas gracias, y entonces él, se queda viendo mis zapatos, los cuales estaban muy dañados, y llama a toda la tripulación del avión y les dice: "Vamos a colaborar todos con el chamín, para que compre unos zapatos nuevos". Y todos colaboran, la cantidad reunida fue de 150bs que en aquella época era una gran cantidad de dinero, además de eso, el capitán, agarró una bolsa negra de tobita y le metió varias bandejas de aluminio con comida y me dice: "Toma chamín, lleva para tu casa...Y también me regaló varias toallas refrescantes, que en la época se usaban para limpiar el sudor del rostro, y dichas toallas venían empapadas en colonia, pero la presentación de el estuche, tenía el escudo de Venezuela". Con lágrimas en mis ojos les di las gracias a todos y más aún, al capitán.

With tears in my eyes I thanked everyone and even more, the captain.

Se que muchos no me creerán, es más, a cada persona que le he contado está historia, nunca me creyeron, pero es algo que viví y que llevo en mis recuerdos como un tesoro que jamás olvidaré.
