Untuk berada di Bukit Gajah Bobok ini, hanya membutuhkan waktu lebih/kurang dari 3 jam perjalanan darat dari kota MEDAN. Bukit Gajah Bobok ini tepatnya berada di kabupaten tanah karo kecamatan MEREK Sumatera Utara. Dari puncak Bukit Gajah Bobok ini kita bisa menikmati keindahan alam yang begitu sangat memukau, Danau Toba yang begitu indah terlihat membiru warna air yang terbentang luas di bawah Bukit Gajah Bobok ini. Pokoknya seru abis lah stemians, nyesal kalau gak treking ke Bukit Gajah Bobok ini.

Menikmati keindahan alam memanglah sangat sangat begitu memuaskan batin, khususnya pecinta alam seperti stemians semua. keindahan yang tiada duanya seperti sunrise, sunset dan samudera awan yang begitu indah yg terbentang luas di atas Danau Toba menjadi daya tariknya.

Kalau kamu berangkat dari medan, kamu bisa Naik Angkot RAJANAPOGOS, DATRA, atau dari simpang pos naik SUTRA, namun kalau membawa kendaraan pribadi bisa kok, Rute yang dilalui untuk mencapai Bukit Gajah Bobok adalah Medan - Pancur Batu – Berastagi – Kabanjahe – Merek. Sesampainya di pertigaan Merek, pilih jalan menuju Sidikalang. Tidak jauh dari sana (sekitar 8 km) tepatnya sebelum Gerbang Simalem Resort, terdapat plang bertuliskan selamat datang dibukit Gajah Bobok Bila kamu membawa sepeda motor retribusi penitipan sepeda motor yang dikenakan tidak begitu mahal yakni Rp. 15.000,-/ sepeda motor, itu pun sudah mendapatkan fasilitas penitipan helm. Setelah memarkinkan kendaraan, berarti Anda sudah tinggal selangkah lagi mencapai keindahan itu. Sudah bisa dibayangkan bukan? Jalur mendaki pun tampak seperti sudah dikelola oleh Dinas Pariwisata beserta masyarakat sekitar, jadi tidak begitu melelahkan, hanya saja Anda harus terus menerus mendaki hingga sampai pada puncak keindahan Bukit Gajah Bobok. Untuk lanjutin perjalanan ke puncak bukit gajah bobok kamu sebenarnya juga bisa bawa sepeda motor ataupun mobil ke atas, namun pastikan ban motor kalian baik ya, dan tidak dikondisi hujan karena jalur tersebut akan berubah menjadi jalanan yang sangat. Tapi saran saya baiknya jalan kaki saja Sembari mendaki, karena banyak pengunjung yang berhenti sejenak untuk mengabadikan setiap keelokan pemandangan yang terlintas. Rugi rasanya jika ada satu momen saja yang terlewatkan, semua kelehan terbalas dengan pesona alam tiada tara, Sumatera Utara. Sebelum akhirnya pada puncak keindahan sesungguhnya. Bukit Gajah Bobok didominasi dengan hamparan rumput berwarna kuning keemasan layaknya padang rumput Savana di Bromo.

Tempat ini dinamai dengan Gajah Bobok karena dua bukit tertinggi terlihat seperti gajah yang sedang tertidur jika dilihat dari Jalan Lintas Kaban Jahe-Sidikalang. Ditambah dengan belalai yang sesungguhnya jalan menuju bukit, semakin menampakkah Gajah yang sedang beristirahat menjadi asal namanya, saranku sih datang kesini jangan di hari libur, sejak maraknya destinasi wisata ini tempat ini bisa berubah layaknya pasar di atas bukit, bedanya semua pegang hape bukan transaksi jualan. Begitulah..

buat kamu yang menginap di bukit gajah bobok siapkan peralatan menginap sendiri dan bawa air yang banyak ya steemians.

Saya punya cerita, karena diwaktu saya dan teman-teman ngecamp di bukit, kami pernah membuat kesalahan fatal tersebut. persedian air kami habis, sontak kami turun dari bukit mencari air, sementara kami berjalan menyusuri aliran air yang mongering, tak lama ada pemuda desa, yes pemudanya baik banget dia dengan semangat bilang

“oh, dekat itu bang 1 KM lagi lah, dah dapat airnya, ikutin abang ajalah jalan ini”

oh Tuhan, senangnya kami mendengarnya, kami pun bersemangat lanjut berjalan tapi entah kenapa pemisis pun muncul. 1KM jalan kok gk ketemu juga, ternyata ampuun..

± 3 KM jarak yang kami tempuh, banyangkan saja, itu ditempuh dengan kerongkongan yang kering abis, jangan berharap yang kalian temuin itu sungai atau sumur, itu adalah aliran air yang akan mengaliri sawah penduduk, beruntungnya itu adalah air yang berasal dari air terjun jadi setidaknya air nya bersih dan jernih, walau higenisnya cukup Tuhan yang tahu.

Bukit gajah bobok punya daya tarik tersendiri, aku selalu bilang ini tuh hotel bintang 100, tak sejauh naik gunung tapi mata kita tetap bisa dimanjakan dengan keindahanya, Pada malam hari dengan catatan langit sedang cerah, kamu dapat menikmati keindahan kerlip bintang yang bertaburan. Bintang-bintang yang bersinar indah bagai memberi kesan ketanangan yang mungkin sulit ditemui ditengah hiruk pikuk kota metropolitan. Ditambah dengan sejuknya udara yang ada, makin membuat pengunjung merasa dimanjakan oleh alam.

Menjelang pagi, jika beruntung para pengunjung bisa menikmati terbitnya matahari dari ufuk timur. Gejala alam yang menjadi pertanda dimulainya hari tentunya membuat jiwa pengunjung kembali bersemangat untuk menjalankan segala aktifitas ketika kembali ke Medan. Ditambah dengan apiknya kreasi manusia yang berwujud salah satu resort mewah yang ada di Sumatera Utara, menggelitik pengunjung untuk berkunjung ketempat tersebut. Belum lagi ketika mata memandang indahnya sisi lain Danau Toba yang terbentang luas dan Bukit Sipiso-Piso yang menjulang gagah membuat kita tak lupa mengucapkan kebesaran Tuhan yang telah menciptakan bumi dengan segala isinya. Praktis pemandangan tersebut menjadi sasaran empuk bagi pengunjung untuk mengabadikan momen-momen yang mungkin jarang bisa dikunjungi.

Sudah liat senja disana, ini adalah senja dan subuh dibukit gajah bobok, dengan pemandangannya danau toba yang keren banget, apalagi saat memegang bendera Indonesia di kepalan tangan.
