Good evening London ! Today I'll write about a platform that since it was lunched , excited me and milions of "cryptomaniacs" all over the world . I'm speaking about Ethereum , a project designed in the far 2013 by Vitalik Buterin (class 1994) , whose launching happened two years later , in July 2015 . What is Ethereum

Ethereum is a decentralized platform for creating and publishing peer-to-peer smart contracts (smart contracts), or rather protocols for computers that facilitate, verify, or enforce, a contract's execution, or avoid the need of a contractual clause. In simple terms they are "decentralized" contracts: they do not need a figure that guarantees that these contracts have been completed, because when, due to mathematical conditions, the IF-THEN clause (IF I pay ... THEREFORE I have the right ...) is resolved, everything is validated and incorruptible precisely because the contract is "decentralized" within the blockchain.

How it works

In order to run on the peer-to-peer network, the Ethereum contracts "pay" the use of its computational power through a unit of account, called Ether(ETH) which then acts as a cryptocurrency. Ethereum is not just a network for the exchange of monetary value but a network to run contracts based on ERC-20 standard (the standars of Ethereum). These contracts can be used safely to perform a large number of operations: electoral systems, financial markets, crowdfunding platforms, intellectual property, etc ...

Ethereum is based on the PoW (Proof of Work), so to generate new Ether the blockchain needs to be "mined". As already mentioned above, every transaction that passes through the Ethereum platform requires a commission (which goes to repay the work of validating the "miners"), which takes the name of Gas (we can understand it as a sort of "fuel" that is burned to validate the transaction ... who participates in the ICO knows what I mean).

Final considerations

This constant use of the platform and its diversification in several sectors, have allowed Ethereum to reach a capitalization (February 7, 2018) of about 70,000,000,000 euros (70 billion), and the value of the token (ETH) has come to touch the price of 1,000 euros (one thousand euros). Not bad considering that its launch price was a few euro cents.

Now let's take a practical example to close the speech: let's imagine using the Ethereum platform as an electoral voting system. Instead of going to the polls and physically depositing our "vote", we could, in a totally secure and decentralized way (as based on blockchain), vote electronically. Once this is done (... IF ...), the vote would be recorded (... THEN ...).

Sto parlando di Ethereum , progetto ideato nel lontano 2013 da Vitalik Buterin (classe 1994) , il cui lancio è avvenuto due anni dopo , nel Luglio 2015 . Cos'è Ethereum

Ethereum è una piattaforma decentralizzata per la creazione e pubblicazione peer-to-peer di smart contracts (contratti intelligenti) , ovvero protocolli per computer che facilitano, verificano, o fanno rispettare, la negoziazione o l'esecuzione di un contratto, o che evitano il bisogno di una clausola contrattuale . In parole semplici sono dei contratti "decentralizzati" : non hanno bisogno di una figura che garantisca che questi contratti siano andati a termine , perchè nel momento in cui , per condizioni matematiche , la clausola IF-THEN (SE pago...QUINDI ho diritto...) si risolve , il tutto è validato ed incorruttibile proprio perchè il contratto è "decentralizzato" all'interno della blockchain .

Come funziona

Per poter girare sulla rete peer-to-peer, i contratti di Ethereum "pagano" l'utilizzo della sua potenza computazionale tramite una unità di conto, detta Ether(ETH) che funge quindi da criptovaluta . Ethereum non è solo un network per lo scambio di valore monetario ma una rete per far girare contratti basati sullo standard ERC-20 (lo standard di Ethereum). Questi contratti possono essere utilizzati in maniera sicura per eseguire un vasto numero di operazioni: sistemi elettorali, mercati finanziari, piattaforme di crowdfunding , proprietà intellettuale, etc...

Ethereum è basato sul PoW (Proof of Work) , quindi per generare nuovi Ether la blockchain necessita di essere "minata" . Come già accennato in precedenza , ogni transazione che passi attraverso la piattaforma Ethereum necessita di una commissione (che va a ripagare il lavoro di convalida dei "miners") , che prende il nome di Gas ( possiamo intenderlo come una sorta di "carburante" che viene bruciato per validare la transazione ... chi partecipa alle I.C.O. sà a cosa mi riferisco ) .

Considerazioni finali

Questo utilizzo costante della piattaforma e questa sua diversificazione in più settori , hanno permesso ad Ethereum di raggiungere una capitalizzazione (7 Febbraio 2018) di circa 70.000.000.000 Euro (70 Miliardi) , ed il valore del token (ETH) è arrivato persino a toccare il prezzo di 1.000 Euro (Mille Euro) . Non male visto che il suo prezzo di lancio è stato di pochi centesimi di Euro .

Ora facciamo un pratico esempio per chiudere il discorso : immaginiamo di utilizzare la piattaforma Ethereum come sistema di votazione elettorale . Al posto di andare alle urne e depositare fisicamente il nostro "voto" , potremmo , in maniera totalmente sicura e decentralizzata (poichè basata su blockchain) , votare in via telematica . Una volta fatto ciò (...IF...) , il voto sarebbe registrato (...THEN...) .
