Mi postura es clara: los procesos formativos deben respetarse. Y esto no solo aplica a los jugadores, sino también a los entrenadores. No obstante, también siento que quizás le faltaba un poco más de recorrido en las categorías menores, donde su trabajo ha sido, sin duda, fenomenal.

A nivel de fútbol venezolano, tengo la sensación de que muchas veces trabajamos de forma invertida: concentramos casi toda la atención en la categoría absoluta y descuidamos las bases que, a largo plazo, deberían sostenerla. Esto ocurre desde las escuelas de fútbol base, pasando por las ligas profesionales, hasta llegar a la selección mayor. En contraste, en otros países la prioridad es clara: fortalecer el fútbol formativo para que, con el tiempo, ese trabajo se refleje de manera natural en la absoluta.

Desde lo estrictamente futbolístico, Oswaldo Vizcarrondo tiene una manera de entender el juego que me resulta muy atractiva. Muchos pensaron que, por haber sido defensor central, su propuesta sería conservadora o excesivamente defensiva. Sin embargo, su idea va en otra dirección: transiciones rápidas, orden ofensivo y una intensidad física alta. Otro punto positivo de su nombramiento es que Vizcarrondo no tendrá que “perder tiempo” conociendo a los jugadores. El futuro de nuestra Vinotinto ya ha pasado por sus manos en la Sub-17 y la Sub-20. Y no se trata solo de nombres o de confianza mutua: el sistema de juego que implementó en las juveniles podría convertirse, por primera vez, en un lenguaje común para todas las selecciones nacionales. Claro está, ahora enfrenta un reto mayor, donde gestionar egos, presiones mediáticas y la exigencia de una eliminatoria sudamericana será una prueba constante.

También es cierto que el fútbol moderno está rompiendo con la vieja idea de que solo un “viejo zorro” puede dirigir una selección.
