I had been wanting to watch this specific movie for a long time, but no matter how much I searched for it on all the streaming platforms I couldn't find it. I was annoyed to start searching through the browser that has the stick because I have to type the page to watch it with a remote control that has no keyboard, my last option was to watch it on the computer, and someone a few days ago suggested me a page to watch it. I have been going through one of my processes this week and for this reason, I didn't finish looking for the movie and just kept procrastinating and didn't watch it that night. The next day when I woke up I saw that one of my friends posted on his Instagram stories that he had seen it, so I immediately asked him where he was able to see it and he replied that he had gone to the movies. Quickly, I went to the web to see the movie theaters in my city and to my surprise, there was the movie. In addition, it was also half price because since Monday was a holiday, they moved the promotion to Wednesday, so it was much better for me. I remembered that a few months ago I had recharged a payment platform called Vippo that allows me to make online payments and I had enough credit to pay for the ticket. I wasted no time and paid for my ticket, made sure I had all my stuff ready in time so I could head to see the movie.

At 3:00 pm I was at the movie theater, bought my respective cotufas and other goodies and at 3:15 pm it started. I must make a stop here because I'm sure you've already noticed something very important: I went alone to the movies. A few years ago I would have cared a lot about seeing a movie alone, but there comes a time when you fall into a kind of resignation and it's just your turn. I mean, if you love it so much, what's the problem with going alone? The first time I did it I mustered up the courage, I was alone that day, and I was dying to see **Capitan Marvel** (later I didn't like the movie so much, but that's not relevant), it was my birthday, I was alone in a new city, no friends, no family. It was when I realized that this would be my life many times, that I would be alone, but that this loneliness should not influence us to enjoy the things we love. In the end, we see many things alone, I do it in the solitude of my room most of the time, there is not much difference it is usually even worse, there are people, bustle, unwanted laughter... Anyway, buying food for yourself is not so bad. Al día siguiente, cuando me desperté vi que uno de mis amigos publicó en sus historias de Instagram que la había visto, así que le pregunté enseguida por donde la pudo ver y me contestó que había ido al cine. Rápidamente, fui a la web a ver las salas de cine de mi ciudad y para mi sorpresa allí estaba la película. Además, también estaba a mitad de precio porque como el lunes había sido feriado, pasaron la promoción para el miércoles, así que me salió mucho mejor. Recordé que unos meses atrás había recargado una plataforma de pagos llamada Vippo que me permite hacer pagos por internet y tenía suficiente saldo para pagar la entrada. No perdí tiempo y pagué mi ticket, me aseguré de tener todas las cosas listas a tiempo para poder dirigirme a ver la película. > >A las 3:00 de la tarde estuve en el cine, compré mis respectivas cotufas y demás chucherías y a las 3:15 pm empezó. La primera vez que lo hice reuní el valor, estaba sola ese día, y moría de ganas de ver **Capitana Marvel** (ya luego no me gustó tanto la peli, pero no es lo relevante), era mi cumpleaños, estaba sola en una ciudad nueva, sin amigos, sin familia. Fue cuando caí en cuenta de que esa sería mi vida muchas veces, de que estaría sola, pero que esta soledad no debería influir en disfrutar de las cosas que amamos. Al final vemos muchas cosas solos, yo lo hago en la soledad de mi cuarto la mayoría de las veces, no hay mucha diferencia, de hecho, suele ser hasta peor, hay gente, bullicio, risas indeseadas... En fin, comprar comida para uno no es tan malo. Is there such a thing as love at first sight? I have an opinion and a story about that, but I'll save it for another time, but the truth is that when Gary Valentine saw Alana Kane walking by he knew it was her. But at least Alana had a completely different opinion, he was only 15 and she was 26, an abysmal difference. This film by director Paul Thomas Anderson is set in the year 1973 in the San Fernando Valley in California and portrays the story of when Gary and Alana met and began a friendship that would become something bigger. When we are young, every year of difference counted, and basically, she was an old lady in front of a visible not only minor but also a teenager. There was no possible recipe for them to be together, but this did not prevent the birth of one of the most beautiful friendships, one of those that border on love. > ¿Existirá el amor a primera vista? I decided to start first by talking about Gary. Oh, Gary, I wish half the grown men I knew in my life had half Gary's determination with life and with knowing exactly what he wanted. Let's be clear that at 15 years old no one knows what they want. However, when you grow up as a child actor, as was the case with Gary, you see the future differently; with money in the bank and taking advantage of every possible venture is an admirable thing to see in someone so young, and something I'd like to see a few people do. It was implicit that something was going on with his career, it was not flowing as he would like, he was no longer the kid everyone was looking for, the reality is that he was running out of time and had to do other things, and decided to start entrepreneurship. What I want to make clear in this is that no matter how young he was, he had the mind of an adult or at least a clearer projection than many at thirty. I loved the performance of this new actor, I had never seen him before: a tall, red-haired kid with a great acting gift and one of the most impressive debuts I had ever seen. I didn't pay attention to his name, and I didn't look him up in the credits of the movie, I just enjoyed the performance of this new actor trying to seduce his friend Alana. It is in these moments when you realize that it doesn't matter your first name, your last name, or that you are the son of one of the greatest actors who ever lived. His name: Cooper Hoffman, is the son of the late actor and Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, who we saw shine in films like **Capote**, **The Doubt**, **The Master**, which is a film also directed by Anderson himself so it is easy to know how the director met Cooper. This actor was one of the great losses that the movie world had, but fortunately, he left a dick, and not just any dick, I'm starting to believe that there are things that are inherited. Amazingly, someone who never even had a cameo or previous acting lessons would have done something so extraordinary in his debut, I give him a standing ovation and I'm already looking forward to seeing what else he has to show the world. > He decidido empezar primero hablando de Gary. Es en estos momentos cuando te das cuenta de que de verdad no importa tu nombre, ni tu apellido o que seas el hijo de uno de los mejores actores que haya existido. Su nombre: Cooper Hoffman, es el hijo del fallecido actor y ganador del Óscar Philip Seymour Hoffman, a quien vimos brillar en películas como **Capote**, **The Doubt**, **The Master**, quien es una película también dirigida por el mismo Anderson por lo que es fácil saber de que manera conoció el director a Cooper. Este actor fue una de las grandes pérdidas que tuvo el mundo del cine, pero afortunadamente dejó un capullo, y no cualquier capullo, estoy empezando a creer que hay cosas que son heredadas. I have a lot to say about Alana, a lot because if I felt identified with Gary for always staying in the friendzone, I felt much more identified with Alana for a lot of things. A 26-year-old woman who works with an agency that takes pictures for yearbooks and in which her job is completely irrelevant accepts an invitation to lunch from a 15-year-old teenager. Would it be possible? I would say yes because you have to contextualize a lot of things; it was the fucking 70's, it didn't matter much how old you were, especially if the boy in question had promised to pay the bill because, well, he could. I can't think badly of Alana, because in the end, they were just going to eat and talk, and that's how their friendship started, and thanks to that she also got a better job being Gary's chaperone on trips because he was a minor. I loved the character of Alana, there is a lot of reality in all the personality captured: the youngest of three Jewish sisters, 26 years old, and with no direction in her life. Jewish, with a strict father, boyfriends who come and go without getting anywhere, and a 15-year-old boy courting her. I liked the diatribe she had about hanging out with Gary and his 15-year-old friends, I think some of us thought the same thing: "Why do I keep hanging out with Luis and his drunken friends?", the reality behind those questions is broader than just hanging out with certain types of people; what the question implied was: If I want to emerge in my life and find the right person, why do I keep hanging out with this group? I think the action is simple, take it or leave it, you decide if you are still there or just leave. Because in the end, what does it matter if they are 15 years old, but you feel comfortable in that place. Because at the end of the day, Alana, with that timeless face, you don't know if she is young or more adult, she could be with whoever she wanted, she hadn't done anything for her life, you have to be clear that sometimes she behaved like a 15-year-old girl. In the end, because of the attitudes, they both had, it didn't seem to me that age mattered much, although it was the clear and forceful reason why there was that wobble between friendship and love during the whole movie. I loved Alana too much, and I only say her name because if the character is named Alana Kane, she in real life is Alana Haim, a singer who has a band with her sisters and had previously collaborated with the film's director. I loved her face, which looks straight out of the '70s, I loved the charisma, and that even though at first everything seemed to hover around Gary, she ended up being a big focus throughout the plot. I found his attitude so real, his determination to start projects and finish them unsuccessfully that it reminded me too much of my life. When we are in our 20s we tend to think that because we are in our 30s and haven't done anything, we tend to think that our life is over. There is a daily struggle to catch up with things at a certain age and if we look at everything right, we only have 20 years and a lifetime to come, go and give up whatever we want because we are just getting started. Honestly, Alana has become one of my favorite female characters. I hope to continue to see well-built characters and to show women that we can't always be perfect. That we can be indecisive, it is allowed to hesitate and think ahead, to come and go, even to think again. > De Alana tengo mucho que decir, muchísimo, porque si me sentí identificada con Gary por permanecer siempre en la friendzone, me sentí mucho más identificada con Alana por muchísimas cosas. Yo diría que si, porque hay que contextualizar muchas cosas; eran los jodidos años 70, no importaba mucho la edad, sobre todo si el muchacho en cuestión le había prometido pagar la cuenta porque, bueno, podía hacerlo. No puedo pensar mal de Alana, porque al final solo iban a comer y a hablar, y así empezó su amistad, y gracias a eso también consiguió un mejor trabajo siendo la chaperona de Gary en los viajes porque era un menor de edad. El personaje de Alana me encantó, hay mucha realidad en toda la personalidad plasmada: la menor de tres hermanas judías, de 26 años y sin ningún rumbo en su vida. Judía, con un padre estricto, novios que van y vienen sin llegar a nada, y un niño de 15 años cortejándola. > > Me gustó mucho la diatriba que tenía por andar con Gary y sus amigos de 15 años, creo que alguna vez alguna de nosotras pensó lo mismo: "¿Por qué sigo saliendo con Luis y sus amigos borrachos?", la realidad detrás de esas preguntas es más amplia que solo el hecho de salir con cierto tipo de personas; lo que de verdad implicaba la pregunta era: Si quiero surgir en mi vida, y encontrar a la persona adecuada ¿Por qué sigo saliendo con este grupo? Creo que la acción es sencilla, o lo tomas o lo dejas, tú decides si sigues allí o simplemente te vas. Porque al final, que importa si tienen 15 años, pero tú te sientes cómoda en ese lugar. Porque al fin y al cabo, Alana, con esa cara atemporal, que no se sabe si es joven o es más adulta, podría estar con quien quisiera, no había hecho nada por su vida, hay que estar claros que a veces se comportaba como una chiquilla de 15 años. Al final, por las actitudes que tenían ambos, no me pareció que importaba mucho la edad, aunque era la clara y contundente razón por la que existía ese bamboleo entre la amistad y el amor durante toda la película. > > Amé demasiado a Alana, y solo digo su nombre porque si el personaje se llama Alana Kane, ella en la vida real es Alana Haim, una cantante que tiene una banda junto a sus hermanas y que ya había colaborado anteriormente con el director de la película. Amé su cara, que parece sacada directamente de los años 70, amé el carisma, y que aunque al principio todo parecía que rondaba alrededor de Gary, realmente terminó siendo un gran foco durante toda la trama. Me pareció tan real su actitud, su determinación para comenzar proyectos y terminarlos sin éxito que me recordó demasiado a mi vida. Cuando tenemos 20 años solemos creer que porque ya estamos por tocar los 30 y no hemos hecho nada, solemos pensar que nuestra vida está acabada. Hay una lucha cotidiana por alcanzar las cosas a cierta edad y si vemos todo bien, solo tenemos 20 años y toda la vida para ir, venir y renunciar a todo lo que nos dé la gana porque realmente apenas comenzamos. Sinceramente, Alana se ha convertido en uno de mis personajes femeninos favoritos. Espero seguir viendo personajes bien construidos y de mostrar a las mujeres que no siempre podemos ser perfectas. If there is one thing that is completely wonderful throughout the film it is the undeniable chemistry between Gary and Alana, every scene they were in together there were sparks flying out of them in every direction. It was great to watch them together, and he was an adult trapped in a teenager's body, and she was a teenager trapped in an adult's body, but at times they were what their age showed them to be, maturity and level-headedness when it had to be had. The age line between them crossed and we stopped remembering how old each one was and noticed the essence of each other, the beauty of true love, the kind you only need to show to know it was there. Beautiful friendships are not perfect, while watching the movie I couldn't help but remember how many friends I had that never dared to take the step, especially when I was a teenager, I remember friends throwing looks that I didn't understand until I finally started to have my own experiences and think: "It's just that Andres liked me, I never noticed and what a fool I was." Maybe if an Andres, or an Achilles, had been as upfront as Gary, things would have been different; my head wouldn't have been spinning so much and I probably would have made decisions with people who came along later who became beautiful friendships that bordered on love. Many times it happens that we don't want to see the reality, that we fall in love with our best friend, and probably the opposite happens (not always) and we prefer to stay in the friendzone so as not to end the beautiful relationship we might be having. Tal vez si un Andrés, o un Aquiles, hubieran sido tan frontales como Gary, las cosas habrían sido diferentes; mi cabeza no habría dado tantas vueltas y probablemente habría tomado decisiones con personas que llegaron después que se volvieron amistades hermosas que rozaban en el amor. Muchas veces pasa que no queremos ver la realidad, de que nos enamoramos de nuestro mejor amigo, y probablemente pase al contrario (no siempre) y preferimos quedarnos en la friendzone para no terminar la relación tan bonita que pudiera estar teniendo. Another memorable and laugh-laden appearance is Bradley Cooper's performance as **Jon Peters**, who is a former partner of the beloved Barbra Streisand and a well-known movie hairdresser and producer. He produced **A Star Is Born**, both the version in which Streisand appears, and the 2018 version in which Cooper himself was involved, so he knew and was close to Peters for a while, so he imprinted quite a bit of the real personality in the movie, and believe me when I tell you that every time he appears on screen I could only feel uncomfortable and at the same time very funny. > Otra aparición memorable y cargada de muchas risas es la actuación de Bradley Cooper como **Jon Peters**, quien fue pareja de la querida Barbra Streisand y además un reconocido peluquero de cine y productor. Paul Thomas Anderson wrote and directed this beautiful film, we know he is one of those directors who is not very prolific, but when he brings something to the screen, he simply stands out. The last film I saw of his, like this one, was also about love: Phantom Tread, curiously one of the first movie reviews I did in my beginnings in the blockchain, a film that I tasted starring the wonderful, Daniel Day-Lewis and Vicky Krieps. Something that characterizes the director is to make period films, he makes us travel to the year in which each of these is set. this film was no exception, the soundtrack is a delight, in fact, I've been writing the whole review while listening to it to get into the mood. The cinematography is something else spectacular, the colors, the magic of the camera taking the colors of the wonderful card taken straight from the '70s fascinated me. There is something that is also remarkable, because although the director's last film was about fashion, and obviously the costumes had to be sumptuous. This time around I loved the costumes because they didn't look like they were straight out of a costume store, all very appropriate to bring us more into the story. The costumes that Alana wore looked horrendous to me, and it was just as if I was looking at a photo album of my mom from that time: no one sees pictures like that when she was old and says: "look at that great outfit" because it wasn't like that, we usually make fun of them and she really nailed it. Besides being about love, this is definitely an ode to cinema. I love how these directors bow to what they love so much, just like Tarantino did with **Once Upon a Time...**, Anderson did in this tender romantic version of a story he wrote by pulling excerpts from real people he pulled from the era. I felt Alana's character as a kind of Forrest Gump but in the year 73 in The San Fernando Valley. A place that has inspired the director many times and has set several of his films. He even chose Alana herself and her sisters (who are also her sisters in the film) from the same place, and with whom he has worked before. They belong to a very famous band from the United States, Haim. They have even collaborated with very famous music stars such as Taylor Swift and Florence + The Machine. The same director has directed many of her music videos and there is no doubt that he knew how to get the best angles of Alana's beautiful and different face because he knows her quite well. > Sentí al personaje de Alana como una especie de Forrest Gump pero del año 73 en El Valle de San Fernando. We have always been sold that the cinema is a place where you have to go accompanied, the same cinema has been responsible for that and the truth is that you only go to the cinema to watch movies, if you want to do something social you can go to eat, to dance, to the beach (you can also do it alone), but really there is no safer place where you can go alone than the cinema. There is no one drinking alcohol (unless you sneak it in), and if there is someone close to you who wants to make a pass at you, you just call one of the waiters, but for sure it won't happen. That's my proposal to you and I hope you get up the courage, do it and come and tell me about it. # A las Mujeres: Dentro de un par de días se celebra el día internacional de la mujer, si hay una actividad que les recomendaría a todas para mostrar empoderamiento femenino es ir solas al cine. Siempre nos han vendido que el cine es un sitio al que hay que ir acompañado, el mismo cine se ha encargado de eso y la verdad es que al cine únicamente se va a ver películas. Si quieres hacer algo social puedes ir a comer, a bailar, a la playa (también lo puedes hacer sola), pero de verdad que no hay sitio más seguro a donde puedas asistir sola que el cine. No hay nadie tomando alcohol (a menos que lo metas a escondidas), y si hay alguien cercano que se quiera propasar contigo simplemente llamas a alguno de los veladores, pero de seguro que no va a suceder.
