When buying an apartment or a house, what will you consider about?

The price?? The location?? The size?? The decoration?? ....

To me, price is the most important element I will consider when buying a flat in Hong Kong. However, to the traditional Chinese point of view, price may not be the most important element they have to consider.

From the traditional Chinese point of view, home is the most important place for people, tombs as the home for dead people, and houses as home for living people. Tombs and houses are both very important for people, one for the fortune of the whole household, including all relatives, and one for the current fortune, like health, wealth of a specific family.

The direction of a house, environment of house and the internal structure of house will impact the feng shui (風水) of the living environment.

Direction

Direction of a house means the direction which the main door of a building is facing. For normal residence, of course the direction can be easily found out. But for the bigger residence, having more than one door, the direction of the front door will be the direction of the whole house, Just like how the picture shown at the right side.

However, for the direction of houses, there are many different combination for different people. Because in the Feng Shui theory, Different direction will suit different people for different aims of improving luck.

Direction determined by kua number (命卦)

From one of the many theories, it is said that which direction to be chose is related to the Kua number (命卦) of a person, which is related to the birth year of people. The kau number will be different for different gender even if they are born in the same year. For different aims, the best direction of houses will be different for people with different kua number, for example, people with kua number 1, east will be the best direction for improving health, but south will be the best for attracting love.

Kua number can be easily found and to choose house direction for different aims. But it is slightly complicated as people need to choose what they want and to find out their own kua number.
