Mi abuela Alba estudiaba, apenas iniciaba estudios medios en la Unidad Educativa Colegio La Inmaculada, en la ciudad de Mérida. Mi abuelo, realiza sus preparativos para viajar de Carúpano a Mérida, siendo apenas un muchacho de diecinueve años, en el año mil novecientos cuarenta y siete, con muchas dificultades para sus traslados, ya sea por las carreteras, o por el medio de transporte de la época, además vías poco transitada desde el oriente al occidente del país. Mi abuelo, deseaba con todos los tropiezos de la época, lograr su sueño y creía que ese sueño llenaría sus expectativas, por cuanto se esforzó, nunca se rindió, sin olvidar sus principios y ser positivo en su vida, inscribirse en su carrera, nuca perdió su objetivo, para iniciar sus estudios, muy claro estaba y había sorteado muchas dificultades en el camino, pero logra presentar las pruebas preparatorias para el momento e ingresa a la universidad, en el año mil novecientos cuarenta y ocho, tenía veinte años de edad con trabajo y estudios inicia su carrera universitaria. Mi abuela Alba, apenas concluía sus estudios de primaria, en ese momento con once años pues se prepara para ser normalista, que, en esa época, en el año mil novecientos cuarenta y siete, se orientaban las escuelas normales, a la formación de maestros superiores, con tres años de duración, y ya contaba con doce años de edad para iniciar sus estudios de secundaria, transcurre un tiempo, ambos estudiando, formándose y preparándose para el futuro.

¿Cómo se conocen mis abuelos? Mi abuela tenía apenas quince años, cuando conoce a mi abuelo Armando, ocho años mayor que ella con veintitrés años. A pesar de ser una ciudad muy pequeña no se conocían. Hasta que el destino hizo su mágica jugada, y se encuentran sus miradas por primera vez, en una plaza muy reconocida en la ciudad de Mérida, la Plaza Bolívar. Me pregunto ¿qué le llamaría a mi abuelo la atención de mi abuela, siendo apenas una niña de quince años iniciando la etapa bonita de su vida, en la que deja de ser una niña para convertirse en una señorita muy hermosa y que tenía toda una vida para disfrutar, pues ya estaba por concluir sus estudios como normalista y poder iniciar a futuro un trabajo como maestra?

Se le presenta a mi abuelo la gran oportunidad de su vida pues, como estudiante lo contrataron para realizar en ese momento un censo poblacional, en el año mil novecientos cincuenta el cual le permitiría conocer cuántas, dónde y cómo viven las personas que habitan en un sector determinado, como insumo fundamental para el diseño, planificación, estadísticas y proyecciones, para la ciudad de Mérida y quizás para todo el país en ese momento, pero lamentablemente no le asignaron el sector donde vivía mi abuela Alba, sin embargo, con todo su ingenio, mi abuelo conocía a la persona que haría el censo en la zona donde mi abuela vivía, eran muy buenos amigos y ambos migraron del oriente del país.

Un día se presenta una salida a una fiesta y a mi abuelo le prestan un vehículo busca a mi abuela, ella siempre acompañada de su mamá y de mi tía Auxiliadora, sentaban a mi tía adelante tratando que mi abuelo se enamore de ella, pero imposible él ya estaba perdidamente enamorado de mi abuela Alba, pues había demasiada química entre ellos y pequeños detalles que revelaban que se amaban y que estaban perdidamente enamorados. Pasaron los días, ya aceptando sus abuelos y su mamá el noviazgo, asistían a paseos, fiestas, mi abuela siempre acompañada, nunca salían solos, porque en los tiempos de antes, mi abuela nos decía que no lo hacían hasta formalizarse el compromiso matrimonial.

The days passed, their grandparents and their mother accepting the courtship, they attended walks, parties, my grandmother was always accompanied, they never went out alone, because in the old days, my grandmother told us that they did not do it until the marriage commitment was formalized.

El abuelo Armando, fue recibido en la casa como un miembro más de la familia, luego de que converso con sus abuelos y su mamá. Mi abuela Alba concluía sus estudios de normalista, pero mi abuelo se le presenta una dificultad familiar y tiene que dejar su carrera universitaria iniciando su cuarto año y muy a pesar del dolor que le causaba dejar a mi abuela y a su carrera, decide irse a vivir a la capital del país e iniciaba su trabajo, en la actividad comercial. Mi abuelo Armando tenía grandes habilidades para la venta y servicio al cliente, sentía una gran pasión por lo que hacía. Tuvo éxito en el negocio por cuanto trabajaba con gran dedicación, en cuerpo y alma, permitiéndole escalar y alcanzar sus metas, pero muy a pesar de ser exitoso, no se sentía muy feliz, porque le hacía falta su media naranja, mi abuela Alba a quien todos los días y sin falta se escribían cartas muy hermosas, de amor, románticas que aun conservamos, donde se reafirmaba su amor y compromiso. Estas las enviaban por correo para ese momento o telegramas.

By the middle of the year 1951, they began dating. My grandmother Alba finished her studies as a normalista, but my grandfather faced a family difficulty and had to leave his university degree at the beginning of his fourth year and despite the pain that leaving my grandmother and his career caused him, he decided to go live to the capital of the country and began his work, in commercial activity. My grandfather Armando had great sales and customer service skills, he felt a great passion for what he did. He was successful in the business because he worked with great dedication, body and soul, allowing him to climb and reach his goals, but despite being successful, he did not feel very happy, because he needed his better half, my grandmother Alba a who every day and without fail wrote very beautiful, love, romantic letters that we still keep, where their love and commitment was reaffirmed. These were sent by mail for that moment or telegrams.

Mis abuelos se unen en matrimonio civil y eclesiástico, en la capital del país el nueve de agosto de mil novecientos cincuenta y dos, para ese momento mi abuela Alba tenía apenas dieciséis años y mi abuelo Armando tenía veinticuatro, fijan su residencia en la capital del país. Transcurrieron los días de su luna de miel en la ciudad donde vivían los padres de mi abuelo en Cumana. Ya habían dejado la población de Carúpano, disfrutando de la inmensa familia de mi abuelo Armando, con ocho hermanos, conociendo las costumbres, sus comidas.

Decide mi bisabuela, mamá de mi abuela, buscarla para regresar a Mérida, y pasar allá los últimos días del embarazo, felizmente a los nueve meses, una mañana del veintidós de septiembre de mil novecientos cincuenta y tres, nace una niña, de tez morena clara a la que llamaron Magdalena en honor a la mamá de mi abuelo, y a quien mi abuela tanto quiso. Al año y siete meses después nace otra niña, de tez blanca y ojos marrones, muy expresivos y era mi mamá a la que llamaron Raquel. La casa donde vivían la compartían con un hermano de mi abuelo y su familia, es cuando mis bisabuelos deciden mudarse a la capital, con los demás hermanos de mi abuelo, nuevamente mi abuela se embaraza de su tercer hijo y es cuando deciden mis abuelos mudarse a un apartamento, cercano a sus familiares. El diecinueve de agosto de mil novecientos cincuenta y siete, mi tío Abraham el primer hijo varón de mis abuelos, posterior a éstas fechas nacieron dos hijos más, mi tía Cristina y mi tío Gerardo. Cuando comienza a iniciar la escuela, donde mis abuelos como primero maestros de sus cinco hijos, ejercen su mayor influencia en la vida de cada uno de ellos, por cuanto siempre estaban muy pendientes de su crecimiento, de su desarrollo, inculcaron valores tales como: solidaridad, empatía, respeto y honestidad, así como enseñarles actividades en casa, aprender a cocinar, sin salir de casa para realizarlas y en especial la unión, el amor y la confianza en cada uno de mis tíos y mi mamá. Las energías que trasmitieron mis abuelos a sus hijos, se han transmitido a sus nietos y esto ha ayudado a propiciar un entorno sano y agradable dentro de nuestra casa, porque siempre demostraron su amor y su unión.

On August 19, 1957, my uncle Abraham was the first son of my grandparents, after these dates two more children were born, my aunt Cristina and my uncle Gerardo. When he began to start school, where my grandparents, as the first teachers of their five children, exercised their greatest influence in the lives of each one of them, because they were always very aware of their growth, of their development, they instilled values such as: solidarity, empathy, respect and honesty, as well as teaching them activities at home, learning to cook, without leaving home to do them and especially the union, love and trust in each of my uncles and my mother. The energies that my grandparents transmitted to their children have been transmitted to their grandchildren and this has helped to promote a healthy and pleasant environment in our house, because they always showed their love and union.

Para mí, nieto mayor, considero que cuando se fomenta una crianza positiva y amorosa, se establece las bases, para el desarrollo de un futuro adulto responsable y ese amor, ese gran cariño y el afecto que les profesaron a sus hijos, fueron los vínculos más importantes para reafirmar el valor como familia.

Creciendo bajo ese concepto, mis abuelos se involucraban cada vez más en las escuelas de sus hijos y ambos participaban activamente en su aprendizaje, apoyándolos y participando en las actividades del colegio de mis tíos. Pasando los años aun vivían en la capital, en el mil novecientos setenta, se gradúa mi tía Magdalena de bachiller en ciencias y ella al igual que mi abuelo Armando, decide irse a estudiar en la ciudad de Mérida Ingeniería Eléctrica, no era tan fácil en esa época de ingresar. Sin embargo, luego de presentar las pruebas respectivas logra ser admitida en la Universidad de los Andes. Para mis abuelos el separarse de un hijo, era muy fuerte, por lo que tomaron la decisión de mudarse a la ciudad de Mérida, donde vivía la familia de mi abuela Alba, diecisiete años después del matrimonio de mis abuelos. De esta manera se fortalecieron como familia unida. Aquí en la ciudad mis tíos y mi mamá concluyeron sus estudios de primaria, bachillerato y universidad.

Growing up under this concept, my grandparents became more and more involved in their children's schools and both actively participated in their learning, supporting them and participating in the activities of my uncles' school.
As the years went by, they still lived in the capital, in 1970, my aunt Magdalena graduated with a bachelor's degree in sciences and she, like my grandfather Armando, decided to go study in the city of Mérida Electrical Engineering, it was not so easy in that time of entry. For my grandparents, separating from a child was very strong, so they made the decision to move to the city of Mérida, where my grandmother Alba's family lived, seventeen years after my grandparents' marriage. In this way they became stronger as a united family. Here in the city my uncles and my mother finished their primary, high school and university studies.

Para el año mil novecientos setenta y ocho, mi abuelo comienza con problemas de salud, le realizan un cateterismo, y aunque le dan meses de vida, él logra durar tres años más y así poder realizar uno de sus sueños que es ver graduada a mi tía Magdalena como Ingeniero Electricista. Para ese momento, el abuelo estaba muy desmejorado de salud y en Julio del año mil novecientos ochenta y uno con cincuenta y dos años, se nos fue el abuelo. Ningún nieto lo conoció, pero nuestro abuelo, nos dejó una gran enseñanza a través de mi abuela, mi mamá y mis tíos: seguir luchando, a no rendirnos y a confiar en nuestro instinto.

No grandson knew him, but our grandfather left us a great lesson through my grandmother, my mother, and my uncles: to keep fighting, not to give up, and to trust our instincts.

No era fácil enviudar a la edad de cuarenta y cuatro años, con hijos adolescentes. Pero mi abuela Alba, logro salir adelante con sus hijos, con la ayuda de mi tía Magdalena, quien ya trabajaba. Mi abuela en manualidades era excelente, bordaba, pintaba cerámicas, y hacia unos manteles bordados y de esta manera junto con mi tía, lograron salir adelante, a pesar de todos los obstáculos que se presentaron en el camino. Mi mamá y mi tío Abraham comenzaron a trabajar sin dejar los estudios y los dos menores mi tía Cristina y mi tío Gerardo, estudiaban para concluir su bachillerato. Mi abuela Alba, se sentía muy abrumadora y se deprimía constantemente por la pérdida de mi abuelo, era todo para ella, su esposo, su gran amor. Mi abuela comenzó a sentir dolores físicos y emocionales, dificultades para dormir, poco interés por la vida. Mis tíos y mi mamá tomaron la decisión de buscar ayuda profesional, y lograr manejar su dolor por la irreparable pérdida, y con la ayuda de sus hijos pudo salir un poco adelante y entender que la vida seguía y que un amor tan extraordinario como el de ellos, estaba en sus recuerdos.

But my grandmother Alba managed to get ahead with her children, with the help of my aunt Magdalena, who was already working. My grandmother was excellent in handicrafts, she embroidered, painted ceramics, and made some embroidered tablecloths and in this way, together with my aunt, they managed to get ahead, despite all the obstacles that arose along the way. My mother and my uncle Abraham began to work without dropping out and the two minors, my aunt Cristina and my uncle Gerardo, were studying to finish their high school.
My grandmother Alba felt very overwhelmed and was constantly depressed by the loss of my grandfather, it was everything for her, her husband, her great love. My grandmother began to feel physical and emotional pain, difficulty sleeping, little interest in life. My uncles and my mother made the decision to seek professional help, and to manage their pain for the irreparable loss, and with the help of their children, they were able to get ahead a little and understand that life went on and that a love as extraordinary as that of them, it was in their memories.

Pasan los años y ya graduados mi mamá y mis tíos, mi mamá es Economista, mi tío Abraham es Ingeniero de Sistemas, mi tía Cristina Ingeniero Civil, mi tío Gerardo Medico, y mi tía Magdalena que es la mayor Ingeniero Electricista. Ya graduados cada uno planea independizarse, deciden establecer una familia, es ley de vida. Nunca descuidaron a mi abuela siempre había alguien en casa, o era uno de sus hijos o nuestra querida Meche una persona que siempre estuvo acompañando a mi abuela. Ya mi abuela Alba presentaba dolores muy fuertes físicos y la depresión aumentaba cada día más, a pesar de que siempre era atendida por un especialista, lo cual pudo superar algo con la llegaba de su primer nieto: Yo. Eso fue en el año mil novecientos ochenta y seis con la llegada, fue como una gran bendición, porque creo en ella una nueva esperanza de alegría y vida para disfrutarnos los dos, hubo una gran felicidad, paz a su alma. Mi mamá se quedó todo su reposo en la casa de mi abuela y fui su gran motivo para entretenerla y quizás hubo una conexión extraordinaria con ella, tantas emociones, tantas risas que nunca olvido.

Years go by and my mother and uncles have graduated, my mother is an Economist, my uncle Abraham is a Systems Engineer, my aunt Cristina is a Civil Engineer, my uncle Gerardo is a Doctor, and my aunt Magdalena is the oldest Electrical Engineer.

Once graduated, each one plans to become independent, they decide to establish a family, it is the law of life. They never neglected my grandmother, there was always someone at home, either one of her children or our dear Meche, a person who was always accompanying my grandmother.

My grandmother Alba was already in very strong physical pain and her depression was increasing every day, despite the fact that she was always treated by a specialist, which she was able to overcome somewhat with the arrival of her first grandson: Me. That was in the year 1986 with her arrival, it was like a great blessing, because I believe in her a new hope of joy and life for both of us to enjoy, there was great happiness, peace to her soul. My mom stayed all her rest at my grandmother's house and I was her great reason to entertain her and perhaps there was an extraordinary connection with her, so many emotions, so many laughs that I never forget.

Y así fueron llegando más nietos y la casa de mis abuelos se llenaba de alegrías, ternuras, travesuras, cuentos y magia. Somos nueve nietos, cinco varones y cuatro hembras. Tan solo conoció a los primeros ocho, lo cual disfruto al máximo y fue una gran alegría para su vida. Los nietos fuimos creciendo y así transcurre los años y cuando mi abuela cumple los setenta y cinco años se lo celebramos por todo lo alto, ya que acaba de salir de cuidados intensivos, por problemas de salud, nos reunimos todo aquí en la casa familia y amigos allegados para así poder celebrar con ella y estar todos juntos. A pesar de su decaimiento por su salud celebro el dos de octubre del dos mil once sus setenta y cinco años. Luego de esta celebración mi abuela empieza a decaer, aparecen otras variaciones en su salud, entre ser internada y salir de clínicas transcurrió un año, por supuesto siempre acompañada por sus hijos y nietos, quienes la apoyamos durante el desarrollo de su enfermedad.

And so more grandchildren arrived and my grandparents' house was filled with joy, tenderness, mischief, stories and magic. We are nine grandchildren, five boys and four girls. He only met the first eight, which he enjoyed to the fullest and was a great joy for his life. The grandchildren grew up and the years go by and when my grandmother turns seventy-five we celebrate it in style, since she has just come out of intensive care due to health problems, we all gather here at the family home and close friends so we can celebrate with her and be all together. Despite his decline due to his health, he celebrated his seventy-five years on October 2, 2011. After this celebration my grandmother began to decline, other variations appeared in her health, between being hospitalized and leaving clinics a year passed, of course always accompanied by her children and grandchildren, who supported her during the development of her illness.

Lamentablemente el dos de febrero del dos mil trece mi abuela nos deja, ella fue imprescindible en nuestras vidas, como lo fue mi abuelo Armando, aunque no lo conocimos, somos conscientes de cuán importante fue, porque su enseñanza y protección dejo un gran legado a mi mamá y a mis tíos. Al oír sus historias, es como si sintiéramos sus caricias, su mirada llena de infinita ternura, porque ellos viven en cada célula de sus hijos y fueron transmitidos a nosotros.

Unfortunately, on February 2, 2013, my grandmother left us, she was essential in our lives, as was my grandfather Armando, although we did not know him, we are aware of how important he was, because his teaching and protection left a great legacy to my mom and my uncles. Hearing their stories, it is as if we felt their caresses, their look full of infinite tenderness, because they live in each cell of their children and were transmitted to us.
