June 15, 1975 from the Baikonur cosmodrome in the Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan launched the Soyuz-19 spacecraft with cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Valery Kubasov on board. In 8 hours from Cape Canaveral in Florida (USA) rocket "Saturn 1-B" with the ship "Apollo" and American astronauts Thomas Stafford, Vance Brand and Donald Slayton rose.

Contact took place on July 17 at an altitude of 140 miles above the Atlantic. Three hours after docking, Leonov greeted Stafford with a handshake and the phrase "Glad to see you" at the lock. "Hello, it's good to see you," Stafford replied in Russian. Then the men embraced.

A significant part of the mission was devoted to symbolic actions. Astronauts and astronauts exchanged flags, souvenirs, tablets.
