Thoughts materialize – I foresaw my future. After graduation of my photography studies I photographed many musical groups and performers. Among them are Bonfire, Lumberjacks, Portland, Fashion Games, Saulius Spindi, Maria Akelan and many other less known musicians. However, I also took pictures of world-class performers. One of the most famous was Gregorian. In 2013 I accompanied their band and took pictures in concert tours.

Gregorian is a unique style German band. It’s dressed as monks members are best known for performing global rock and pop hit songs in the Gregorian chant style. I had the opportunity to travel with this group on their concert tours. During that time I have been talking, living, and sharing experiences with professional performers, producers. I learned a quite a lot things. I saw the life of the global group from backstage. It was one of the greatest adventures in my life!

A lot of my photos got into the official Gregorian publications; I contributed in the creation of album cover. What was required to take some amazing photos? First of all, as one team member once joked, the photographer [Ewi] needed a double espresso with milk. Without this my concert evening did not start.

To tell you the truth, the work of the performers is not as easy as it may look from the audience point of view. It is often grueling. Long hours do not stop with stepping of the stage. Here you have to quickly get yourself together and prepare as tour bus already waits for you. In the best case scenario, at the end of the bus ride there is a hotel and in the worse – another concert. Often straight from the concert we went to another city or even country. So, the double espresso often was not only my but also other team members’ savior.

As strange as it may sound, it is easier to photograph well-known professional bands that less known ones since their concerts feature high-quality lighting equipment and light solutions are very good.
