Es curioso pensar que todos nosotros contamos con una habilidad sumamente importante para el bienestar y la supervivencia humana, hablo particularmente de: EL LLANTO. Si, esa capacidad de llorar que desde niños nos ayudaba a llamar la atención cuando teníamos hambre, frio, sueño, dolor y como no teníamos la capacidad de hablar o gesticular a conciencia, simplemente llorábamos.

Hace unos meses mientras estaba pasando de un canal a otro en mi televisor, pude notar por unos instantes algo que me impresionó mucho, resulta que estaban unos hombres y mujeres sentados en el suelo con los ojos vendados y las manos atadas, pero lo más curioso es que de fondo se escuchaba un llanto constante de un bebé; un llanto que no cesaba y que tenía atormentados a estos hombres y mujeres. Lo más interesante fue comprobar que se trataba de un entrenamiento de elite para los marines de los Estados Unidos, en este caso el grupo SAS. Fue impresionante como ésta prueba que puede sonar trivial, constituyó una causa del quiebre psicológico para varios de estos hombres y mujeres fuertes y entrenados para resistir cualquier cosa. El llanto de un niño generó un punto de quiebre, hasta el grado de rendirse al no soportar la prueba de escuchar llorar un bebe y no poder hacer nada por resolverlo. Tal vez alguno de ustedes razone que el problema es el ruido del llanto, pero no, el problema es que se activan nuestros impulsos o tendencias de protección y rescate, y nada es más deprimente y frustrante para nosotros lo humanos que no poder resolver el llanto de un inocente.

Ahora bien, ¿solo los niños cuentan con este poderoso Don de Llorar? De ninguna manera. Los adultos también pueden y deben llorar. Aunque la sociedad señale de endeble a quien manifiesta sus sentimientos con llanto, la realidad es que usted querido lector, al igual que todos los humanos, podemos cambiar la manera en que vemos a otra persona con tan solo verla llorar. A este respecto recuerdo algo que experimenté en mi lugar de trabajo, desde hacía meses los compañeros de trabajo estaban hartos de los señalamientos y comentarios de una compañera en contra de todos los demás del grupo. Esta compañera de trabajo se había ganado la antipatía de todos los demás, y ¡claro! cuando un grupo se junta y todos están de acuerdo en algo, no hay misericordia al momento de actuar contra el supuesto enemigo. Lo cierto es que se citó a una reunión y delante de la Jefe del personal se le hizo quedar muy mal, solo que no contábamos con su reacción, ¿Cuál fue? El llanto. Si, esa habilidad de drenar la impotencia que sentimos, la utilizó sin vergüenza alguna. Tengo que confesar que todos nos sentimos mal al verla llorar, y quien tenía menos compasión por ella, ahora comenzó a minimizar las causas de queja que tanto vociferaba. En ese momento me quedó más claro el poder del llanto.

Es más, si le regalas algo a una persona y ésta lo recibe sonriendo, eso te contentará. Pero te aseguro que, si la vez soltar una lagrima por el regalo que le diste, te hará feliz. Lo mismo sucede cuando compartes una desgracia con un amigo, si te escucha lo agradecerás, pero si llora contigo, te vincularás emocionalmente con esa persona para siempre.

Hasta los hombres debemos saber llorar, quitarnos ese dicho popular de que “los hombres no lloran”. Eso lo que ha logrado es que abunden los hombres machistas que retienen sus sentimientos para sacarlos a flote después de beberse unas cuantas cervezas con sus amigos mientras cantan sus canciones de melancolía para terminar después de todo llorando como magdalenas. Por eso es mejor, ser sincero, noble y abierto a demostrar lo que un hombre siente.

Hasta acá hemos elogiado el poder del llanto, pero como todo: “un poder conlleva una gran responsabilidad”, eso quiere decir que no podemos ni debemos usar el llanto como medio para manipular, no debemos abusar de esta hermosa capacidad. Las lágrimas falsas causan daño y se convierten en una vía rápida para destruir la confianza que los demás tienen en nosotros. Hasta las leyes civiles examinan este comportamiento y lo llaman “dolo”, en donde el chantaje sale a relucir principalmente con el llanto y la aparente amenaza de autodestrucción sino se hace lo que el chantajista quiere lograr. Hasta las Sagradas Escrituras dejaron claro que el llanto malicioso de Dalila fue el detonante para la destrucción de Sansón. Por esa razón, si deseamos mantener nuestra integridad moral ante los demás, evitemos usar el llanto como un simple medio de presión, para llamar la atención o hacer daño emocional a otros, pues en la medida que lo usemos, ese poder se nos agotará y cuando lloremos de corazón y con verdaderos motivos, no tendremos a nadie que nos seque esas lágrimas.

No llorar por simple orgullo sería comparable a retener la orina por simple vergüenza de pedir un baño, en el momento pasará el dolor, pero quedará por dentro una tensión que lastima el alma y el sentido de satisfacción que tanto nos hace falta.
