Hoy le quiero contar sobre un bello paraje frente al mar caribe, adornado de cristalinas aguas y extensas arenas, en donde se encuentra un pequeño pueblo de pescadores llamado el Rincón de Araya, un Macando en el oriente de Venezuela.

Today I want to tell you about a beautiful spot in front of the Caribbean Sea, adorned with crystalline waters and extensive sands, where a small fishing village called Rincón de Araya, a Macando in eastern Venezuela, is located.

Este escondido pueblo, como su nombre lo indica, forma parte del municipio Cruz Salmerón Acosta en el Estado Sucre, se encuentra a unos 25 kilómetros del pueblo de Araya, donde los Españoles en su proceso de colonización de Venezuela construyeron una fortaleza (castillo) para proteger al poblado de Araya de los constantes asedios de piratas para extraer las grandes cantidades de sal marina que allí se producía y se sigue produciendo.

This hidden village, as its name indicates, is part of the Cruz Salmerón Acosta municipality in Sucre State, it is located about 25 kilometers from the town of Araya, where the Spanish in their process of colonization of Venezuela built a fortress (castle) to protect the town of Araya from the constant sieges of pirates to extract the large amounts of sea salt that was produced there and is still being produced.

Este paraje que al igual que pueblo descrito por el escritor colombiano Gabriel García Márquez en sus 100 años de soledad, se encuentra olvidado, corroído las paredes y techos de las casas, sus carreteras se encuentran en interminable ciclo de degradación, producto de la sal y la arena. Esa hermosa arena perlada que adorna sus playas es la misma que va corroyendo todo y dificulta la siembra o crecimiento de árboles, es una zona árida, donde escasea el agua potable.

Allí, en ese poblado, iba constantemente desde mi niñez, era un viaje que comenzábamos al tomar desde Cumaná un ferry que después de un recorrido de aproximadamente 40 minutos llegaba a las turquesas aguas de Araya y después tomábamos una camioneta de transporte al poblado.

En el Rincón no me cansaba de disfrutar de sus playas, de la simpatía de su gente, el continuo compartir con los primos y tíos, el comer pescado frito con casabe o yuka, el popular sancocho de pescado, el chivo guisado. En las tardes escuchar todas las historias de sus pobladores sobre las personas que han desaparecido en el mar, de las aventuras y desventuras en esas aguas interminables del mar Caribe.

In El Rincón I never tired of enjoying its beaches, the friendliness of its people, the continuous sharing with cousins and uncles, eating fried fish with cassava or yuka, the popular fish stew, the stewed goat. In the afternoons listen to all the stories of its inhabitants about the people who have disappeared at sea, the adventures and misadventures in those endless waters of the Caribbean Sea.

El pueblo con el tiempo se fue deteriorando mucho más, producto de la desidia constante y la cultura paternalista de la mayoría de sus pobladores de siempre esperar que los demás resuelvan sus estados existenciales. El Rincón siempre ha sido un pueblo de carencias y clamor, ejemplo de ello se puede ver en parte de una canción que le dedico un tío a ese recóndito lugar.

As time went by, the town deteriorated much more, as a result of the constant idleness and the paternalistic culture of the majority of its inhabitants, who always wait for others to solve their existential conditions. Los niñitos de mi pueblo cuando diciembre aparece, Ellos se ponen muy triste porque no tienen juguete, …. Solo juegan con la tierra porque hacia la tierra van… … Dios mío yo quiero saber, Porque cuando el mundo hacías, Pusiste tanta miseria en la pobre tierra mía…. >The little children of my town when December appears, They get very sad because they have no toys, .... They only play with the earth because to the earth they go... ... My God I want to know, Why when you made the world, You put so much misery in the poor land of mine....

Sus pobladores tienen un comportamiento que podría describirlo como análogo al de los Salmones, una vez pasada la niñez abandonan sus hogares y se van a otras tierras en busca del Dorado, de esa promesa de un mejor vivir, de una abundancia infinita y una vez ya caído el crepúsculo de la vida, regresan a sus raíces, a la tierra que los vio nacer y jugar, a contemplar el bello ocaso del sol y el de sus existencia, a remontar su memorias a esos momentos de alegría, donde en los ojos de los niños existe un especie de prisma que impide ver las necesidades y carencia, solo vez la belleza que te rodea, donde ese desértico paraje es convertido antes nuestros ojos en un paraíso terrenal.
