오래전 여인들이 있었다.

그녀들은 빛이 되고 물이 되고 대지가 되어 세상을 창조했고

아들들은 새로운 신화를 창조했고 그 새로운 신화의 주인공은 아버지였다.

신들의 세대교체다.

그렇게, 아비없던 여인들, 남편 없던 여인들에게 아비와 남편이 생겼다.

그것은 옛 사람들이 기록한 신화 속에 담긴 우리의 고대 역사였다.

신들의 이름도 신화의 언어도 변한다. 신화가 수수께끼와 비밀로 가득한 이유다.

하지만, 그 수수께끼와 비밀의 언어들 속에 우리가 잃어버린 우리의 내력이 살아 전해온다.

어느 날 선녀를 발견하고 사랑에 빠진 나무꾼은 날개옷을 감추어 선녀를 얻는다.

아들들을 얻는다. 그러나, 선녀는 하늘로 돌아가고 나무꾼은 땅에 남는다.

선녀와 나무꾼

한국인이라면 누구나 알고있는 전래동화 또는 설화, ‘선녀와 나무꾼’ 이야기다.

그런데 이 이야기는 우리만의 동화가 아니다.

바이칼호의 새벽... 태고의 신비를 간직한 곳 바이칼

하늘을 숭배하던 고대 아시아의 샤머니즘이 살아있는 그 호수를

바이칼 사람들은 샤먼의 바다라고 부른다

샤먼의 바다에는 오래된 신화와 전설들이 아직껏 생생하게 전해진다.

그 어느 때 바이칼 호에 백조가 찾아왔다

그리고 그 백조를 사랑한 사냥꾼이 있었다.

사냥꾼은 백조와 결혼했고 11명의 아이를 낳았다

백조는 떠나고 11명의 아이들은 새로운 씨족을 열었다

바이칼의 백조처녀 이야기다.

선녀와 나뭇꾼, 호수의 선녀 또는 백조는

하늘과 물의 속성을 동시에 지닌 여성이며, 나뭇꾼과 사냥꾼은 지상의 남성이다.

이름의 차이는 있으되, 둘은 같은 이야기다. 그러나 차이가 있다.

바이칼에서 이 이야기는 동화가 아니다.

바이칼의 수많은 신화 또는 설화들이 이곳에 소장되어있다.

그중에는 부랴트 주요부족 가운데 하나인

호르-부랴트 부족의 연대기에는 백조처녀 전설이 나온다

여기에는 호르-부랴트족이 어디에서, 어떻게 생겨났는 지와 같은

부족의 기원과, 그들의 역사가 기록되어 있습니다.

그 중에는 호르-부랴트족의 시조가 백조와 결혼하여 호르-부랴트족이 기원하였다는 내용이 있습니다.

그들은 결혼하여 11명의 아들을 닿았고, 이들이 후에 11개 호렌츠 씨족의 기원이 됩니다.

호르-부랴트족의 백조기원설은 이 책뿐 아니라 다른 책에서도 많이 찾아볼 수 있습니다.

이 책에서 얘기하고 있는 것은 호르-부랴트족이 백조에서 기원하였다.

즉, 그들의 시조인 호르다-모르겐-Khorda-morgen'이 백조 처녀와 결혼하여,

11개의 호르-부랴트 씨족이 생기게 되었다는 것입니다.

호르-부랴트의 백조처녀 기원설을 전하는 기록들은 아주 많고,

호르-브랴트 인들은 이 이야기를 시조에 대한 기록으로 굳게 믿고있다

그 믿음이 얼마나 오래되었는지를 증언하는 곳이 있다

암각화들 사이에 백조가 선명히 새겨져있다

그들에게 백조처녀 이야기는 결코 동화가 아니다.

샤먼의 바다 바이칼에서 백조처녀는 신화속의 여신 바로 그것이다.

선녀와 나무꾼이 신화로 전해지는 곳이 또 있다

-백두산에서 바라본 아랫녘백두산 발원한 송화강과 흑룡강 사이 동북 일대...

만주족이 발원한 땅 이곳에는 오래전부터 전해오는 만주족 기원설화가 있다

불고륜과 자매들하늘에서 내려온 세명의 선녀가 백두산 연못에서 불고륜만 남겨지는목욕을 하였는데,

사냥꾼이 셋째 불고륜의 날개옷을 감추어 그녀와 결혼을 하고, 만주족의 조상을 낳았다는 이야기다.

선녀와 나무꾼나무꾼이 사냥꾼으로 바뀌었을 뿐 영락없는 선녀와 나무꾼 이야기다.

- 만주원류고 포고리옹순

후일, 청나라가 건국된 후 이 신화는 변형된다

불고륜이 새의 열매를 먹고 포고리옹순을 낳았다고 기록하여

지상의 존재 사냥꾼이 천상의 존재 또는 태양을 상징하는 새와 붉은 열매로 바뀌어 부권을 강조한 것이다.

부육광- 3선녀 신화는 처음부터 황시신화로 전해졌습니다.

청나라때부터 인정된겁니다. 3선녀중 한명이 신성한 열매를 먹고 낳은 아이가 포고리옹순입니다.

포고리옹순이 이란에 가서 국왕이 되고 만주를 건립하여 가족을 만들었습니다.

즉 누르하츠의 조상입니다. 그뒤로 발전하여 후세들은 청나라 제국을 만들었습니다.

본 신화는 이분들의 족원신화고 만주의 각 성씨들이 숭배하는 신화는 아닙니다.

비록 선녀와 사냥꾼이 하늘 남성과 물의 여성 이야기로 바뀌어 공식 기록되었지만,

만주 일대에선 아직도 많은 이들이 원래의 삼선녀와 사냥꾼 이야기를 만주족의 기원신화로 믿고있다.

바이칼과 만주에서 신성한 이야기 씨족의 기원신화로 아직껏 전해오는 이야기가

우리에게 동화로 전해진 이유는 무엇일까?

조현설 /신화는 신성시 되는 이야긴데 신성시 되려면 특정한 이야기가 있어야 되고 그 이야기에 등장하는 신들이라든가 거기 나오는 사건들이라든가 이런 것들을 신성하게 생각하는 개인 혹은 집단이 전제가 돼야 하죠. 좀 더 풀어서 이야기 하면 어떤 특정한 집단이 제의를 통해서 신들에 대한 이야기를 풀어내는 것 이걸 신화라고 말할 수 있겠죠.그래서 신화는 그런 식의 뒤에 바탕이 되는 제의가 사라지고 특정한 종류의 신들을 신성하게 여기는 개인 또는 집단들이 사라지면 신화가 신화로서의 고유한 기능들을 상실하게 되죠. 그래서 흥밋거리 이야기로 전승되는 경우가 많고 그런 과정에서 신화가 때로는 전설 때로는 민담의 형태로 변형되기도 하는 거죠.

선녀와 나무꾼우리가 잃어버린 것은 선녀와 나무꾼 신화만은 아니다.

해와 달이 된 오누이선녀와 나무꾼 만큼이나 익히 알려진 전래동화 중에 보여주고

해와 달이 된 오누이 이야기가 있다

고구려 벽화에 나오는 해와 달의 그림을 보면 ‘오회분 4호묘 일월신’ (전쟁기념관)

적어도 그 이야기가 처음부터 재미있는 이야기 수준이 아니었음을 짐작할 수 있다.

실제로 같은 얼개를 가진 이야기들이 (바이칼)아시아 전역에서 동화가 아니라

‘해와 달의 기원’에 관한 설화로 전승되고 있다.

그렇게 공간을 이동한 신화는 때로 전설이 되고 민담이 되고 동화가 된다

그렇게 시간은 신화를 만들었다 지우고, 다시 쓰기를 거듭한다.

그러나 시간이 흘러도, 비록 공식 신화로 문헌에 기록되지 않았어도

여전히 신화일 수밖에 없는 이야기들이 있다.

그 이야기들은 어디로 갔을까?
