So the other day I decided it was time to visit the local Humane Society. Not only did I visit the center, I may or MAY not have brought home a new family member!!

His name is Pluto!! :P

He's an American Pit mix, and is only 8 weeks old -still a baby! He cries a lot and always has to sleep on my lap (which I love, hehe). He is perfect and I wouldn't trade him for the world :)

Before I even went to the center, I turned to the almighty web, to do some research before heading straight to there (I always dread going somewhere unknown). On their website I found that there were only three puppies available for adoption. Pluto and his sister Helga were the ones that I fell in love their pictures online. By time I got there 15 minutes before they opened, there were already two others in line to see the same dogs! It was pure fate that I got to even meet Pluto because his brother and sister were just adopted, right before him!

If you're not from the Upper left corner of the USA, then you probably don't know that the Oregon Humane Society is the largest humane society in the Pacific Northwest. They adopt more animals from its Portland shelter than any other single-facility shelter on the West Coast. They also have a "no limits" rule for putting pets down, which means no matter how long it takes for a animal to find a home, they take care of them until they get adopted!

OHS puts no time limits on how long animals remain at the shelter—a pet stays available for adoption for as long as needed to find a loving home. If a pet in the care of OHS needs medical attention, the OHS veterinary hospital provides the pet with same level of care you would want your own pet to receive. Founded in 1868 by noted humanitarian Thomas Lamb Eliot, OHS is the third-oldest humane society in the nation and the oldest in the Northwest. Eliot initially established OHS to stop the neglect and abuse of draft animals. The mission expanded to include companion animals and, until 1933, orphaned children.

Everything about the OHS really exceeded my expectations, because you never really know what to expect when adopting. They bring more than 6,000 pets annually to OHS from other shelters around the region. That's amazing, and I'm so lucky to be able to have adopted from them. My pup came from San Francisco, possibly, which made me realize how friggin' LUCKY I was to have been lead by FATE to adopt my new baby. 😍
