I learned to interrupt that pattern with Mel Robin's 5 Seconds Rule. When you feel the pull to act, count down, five, four, three, two, one, and move before your mind has time to talk you out of it.

If you want to write a book, commit to a small number of words at the same time each day, if you want to get fit, put on your shoes and walk around the block instead of forcing a run you are not ready for. That is how you bypass resistance and stay engaged long enough for real change to take root.
